HELP - I need 4 new tires for my 03 Corolla (good in snow)
hey guys
well its that time, i need new tires and i don't know where to look.
i have a 2003 corolla LE and i need to get good "all season" tires.
only thing is they have to be GOOD in the SNOW. i have to get up a massive hill to get home
I need something with bite and traction, but also that i could leave on all year
i currently have Goodyear Integrity and those weren't so good in the snow, esp after 2 years.
the part size says its (195/65/15)
any ideas? any brand that sticks out over another? michellin, goodyear, bridgestone?
thanks for your help, you guys are the best.
I've never tried my Avid TRZs in snow (I live in NC), but I've always heard about how well they do. I REALLY like these tires. If they're as good in the snow as others say, they should be real winners.
I've also heard that the Cooper CS4 Touring tires do GREAT in winter weather. It's an all-season tire. A friend in New Hampshire has them, as well as a friend in Wisconsin. They both rave about the Cooper's winter traction.
michelin and goodyear burn out pretty fast get TOYO tires they are good all around...I have them on my 05 corolla and no complaints just rotate ur tires every 30k
Glad to hear the info about the Cooper CS4's! Touring series are 80K mile tires. I'm looking to put them on my 08 Corolla next week, $91 each mounted and balanced, PLUS Cooper has a $50 rebate for 4 until end of year. I'm also putting 4 of them on my '04 Outback, they're H/V rated at 60K miles, $114 each minus $50 rebate. Glad I read this thread!

I think you'll be happy with them on both vehicles. Hard to beat that rebate they got going on right now...
From NTB's answers, I'd intuitively say the Michelin Harmony. The HydroEdge did not impress in the November 2005 Consumer Reports tire test results. Also, the users at tire rack give an edge to the Harmony in winter weather: Link.
From Hogan Tire's answers, I'd say the TRZ. But there are too many models of the Bridgestone Potenza to tell. Have a look at all the Potenza models that Bridgestone sells: Link. So it's impossible to read their mind on what they meant by that. But here's another link...a link showing the user survey results for the Standard Touring class, where the Yokohama Avid TRZ is (Link). It slots pretty much as close to the top as it gets in terms of just about everything, but especially winter traction.
Now...between the Michelin Harmony and the Yokohama Avid TRZ? Consumer Reports actually gave the Harmony a Good rating in both "Snow Traction" and "Ice Braking". The Avid TRZ scored a Very Good in "Snow Traction", but a Fair in "Ice Braking". Personally, I'm sure they're all about the same...a lot depends on the condition of your tires, the vehicle, the road conditions, etc. They're all close enough for me to recommend that you pick the one that you like best and at the store you like best.
For the winter, i have Michelin X-Ice on my 2005 corolla ce. These are great tires for the winter, i havent had any problems with them yet. And i live in canada soo there is alot of snow here.
I've got the Cooper CS4s on my Corolla. So far, today was rain and 34 degrees, I figure that's getting down there temp-wise for rubber. I tried to push it hard into an exit ramp to see if it would push, I had to back off before that point, it stuck so well that I was afraid if it did let go it would be ugly. I can say that in cold wet at least they stick like the road was dry.
Now if the snow/ice traction is relatively as good, I'll be happy.
Yoko Avid TRZ - $106.99 each
or he said the best were:
Michelin Hydroedge ofr $113.99 each
he said my Goodyear Integrity's were crap.
any ideas on the Yoko or Hydroedge?
I have the Yokohama Avid TRZ's and they are great. First off they greatly improved how the car handles especially in turns. 2nd they are very good in all weather rain, snow, ice. I recommend these tires to everyone. Thay have a great rating on tirerack. I got them for $80.00 each mounted. $320.00 total. The TRZ's offer the same performance as tires that are ridiculously higher in price.......Double check the pricing for the tire on tirerack and use that price to negotiate when you go to buy those tires. TRZ FTW.

I believe the OP is looking for an All-Season tire. But on the X-Ice note, they are a very grippy tire for winter conditions, although, like all other Michelins, they wear out very quickly.

Again,
OP is looking for an All-Season tire. But when it comes to snow tires, there are only two tires that I recommend to anyone. The Nokian Hakkapeliitta 2 winter tire and also the Gislaved Nord Frost winter tire. I work at one of the Greater Toronto Area's biggest tire dealer/installer, and they are absolutely phenomenal.

That's right... It's a Corolla.
haha, sorry about that, but the title of this thread and the caps in the first post saying good in snow is a little misleading. but yes, it is my fault. i apologize.
