since i bought my 04 rolla S 7 months ago, i found the headlight and the fog light are very weak, i am planing to change to a brighter (white) head light and maybe an amber yellow fog light, can anyone tell me what i should do? HID? but some people said the HID system will jsut damage my battery and lessen its life, is that true?
if you get HIDs it doesn't effect ur battery as long as u have a good kit and balasters....best HIDs u can get is made from germany thats top of the line anything else u get double check it cause there are a numerous amount of HIDs out there in the market its just preference. The cheaper you pay for the kit the easier the bulb will burn faster the more you pay u pay for the assuarnce and the life of the bulb. If you want the whitest and brighest bulb in the market other than HIDs go for the sylvania ultras http://www.autobarn.net/sistultwpa.html they are less than $50.00 and the new orange packaging are the ones that last long DO NOT buy the blue packs those are the old products and old packaging...make sure u purchase the orange pack. I have them on my 05 rolla S and it makes a huge diff sylvania got a bad rap cause of the life of the bulb too but I believe the new ones last longer/brighter/wider...for ur fog lights u can purchase euro lights "yellow" bulb and just plug and play...ohhh yeah if u do plan on getting HIDs each bulb cost $50-$100 each when it burns out and when 1 bulb burns out u have to change both bulbs cause it wont look the same. GL
dude if they reduce output I wonder why it are mine so friggin bright..."mikered30" when u try the sylvania ultras the new packaging that came out let me know how it works out for you. Please dont talk and knowledge people about something u havent experienced. I tried most of all sylvanias and nighthawks they are by far closest to HIDs so get ur story straight and stop writing stuff that every other people are saying in the forums, EXPERIENCE it first

If you coat any halogen bulb with an amethyst blue coating ( Ultras) or any color coating, that will reduce output (filtering). Simple physics. They are trying to imitate HIDs. I refuse to try anything from Silverstar because they are overrated and burn out incredibly fast, even if they are installed correctly. My friend tried them out, and they burned out in 10 months. He also said driving in rain sucked. I guess he could have lied about the lifespan, as I was not their to "experience" it. Why spend $50 for bulbs that last 10 months? So everyone else says they suck, including me, then I guess everyone is wrong are you are right. I will not fall for their marketing gimmick. Ultras are rated very close in lumens compared to stock low beam bulbs and last 30% longer than the regular silverstars (according to their marketing department), which were rated at 150+/- hours. 30% of 150=45. So the Ultras are rated at under 195 hours. 195 hours is a bit over 8 days. Ultras claim to have more distance, but doesn't the headlight housing reflector dictate how far the light travels on low beam? As you can tell, I cannot knowingly recommend that crap to anyone, they are a joke.
PS, your Ultras will burn out soon and do you work for silverstar or have stock in them? Also, you are not talking about Osram silverstars, correct? The Orsam bulbs are in a totally different league than the regular silverstars.

The brightness is in your head (literally). The Sylvania Silverstar lights are WHITER. They are not BRIGHTER.
A better choice than Sylvania Silverstars are GE Nighthawks, Philips Vision Plus, Osram Silverstar (not Sylvania), Sylvania XtraVision, etc. That's if you want MORE light than stock.
Our choices in the market are really pretty basic.
Sylvania Silverstar and GE Nighthawk Sport if you want WHITER light.
Osram Silverstar, GE Nighthawk, Philips Vision Plus if you want MORE light.
HID retrofits are illegal, and for good reason. They produce a lot of scattered light in places that it wasn't intended (such as in the eyes of oncoming motorists). Please do your fellow motorists a favor and don't retrofit HIDs into your stock light housings. If you completely replace them with projector lights, that's one thing. But our light housings were not designed for HIDs.

I had the HIRs in the low beams on mine. I went back and forth with them. They seemed to add a little bit more light, but they seemed to physically burn warmer in the headlight housing. The housing got almost too hot to touch with them in it. I had the genuine Toshiba 9012s also. So I took those out and I'm running the GE Nighthawk 9006s in it now. I'd like to try the Toshiba 9011 HIR high beams, but can't justify the $50 for them since I almost never use the high beams.
I had the Toshiba 9012s in my 2001 Cadillac STS and they made a whale of a difference in that car. That car had projectors for low beams, and stock 9006 bulbs sucked in them. I couldn't tell much of a difference when I swapped in the GE Nighthawks in it either. So I went with the Toshiba HIR bulbs and those REALLY pepped up the performance. When I sold the car, I put the standard 9006s back in it and kept the Nighthawks and HIRs and those are the ones I've been playing with in the Corolla.
