horrible under steer

Is there anything we can do to lesson the under steer? My xrs has better tires, short sidewalls, lowered, and it still has horrible understeer. Is there anything we can do?

Wow. And my '07 LE always feels that the rear end wants to rotate during hard maneuvers (it feels very "neutral").

Understeer can be reduced by adding a stiffer rear sway bar. One reason your car wants to understeer is the setting of the stock sway bars. The front bar is obviously larger and has more influence over the suspension than does the rear bar. In short, which ever end of the suspension (front or rear) "settles" first is the one that will try to slide (because there's no more compliance). If you can get the rear suspension so start to "settle" sooner (by tightening it up), you can get it to rotate quicker.

Are you auto-crossing the car? What about the condition of the struts? Are they original? How many miles on the car? Are the struts leaking at all?

Does the XRS come with a strut brace, or was it an option?

Either way, it looks like the ones I've seen in pictures would be prone to flexing because they have so many joints on them.

With my LE, I can stick the tip of my finger into the small gap between the dash and the door and feel the body flex in even the slightest of turns. I'm sure it would be better with the XRS strut brace, but it would probably be much better with a solid brace.

Just a thought.

i know what you mean, our cars suffer from sever understeer. But like jasonA said, stiffer rear sway. TRD has one 24 mm i think, but is hollow. Progress has one 22mm solid. that should help. What are you lowered on?

The stock XRS strut bar isn't even a solid bar. There's a shock in the middle of it. A solid bar would definitely stiffen it up.

echoing what everyone else has said to get a larger solid rear sway bar.

a stiffer front strut bar just decreases chassis flex and if anything, would increase the tendency for the car to understeer more.

change out all your suspension bushings to polyurethane ones as well.

could always go for a more unconventional way to solve that problem. carbon fiber hood, heavy sub in the back?...anything that'll help weight distribution

How else would you magnify a handling problem?
