It stayed right there at the 299,999 mark and never moved from there so I called Toyota Canada and asked them point blank how they plan on fixing this known problem. Toyota Canada said to call my dealer and see if they can help, so I did. They will be putting a complete new cluster in my car next week and the cost to me is 0.0 ..
What I was told is if you hit 299,999 before 5 years after purchase date then it's a free replacement but if you hit 299,999 after the 5 years you will only get the cluster and you have to install or pay the dealer to install.

Nice, How many things have you had to replace/repair in those 186,000 miles? Like has your alternator, radiator, steering, brakes/brake lines, water pump etc. etc. been replaced or had problems with? I'm at 101K and just wondering what I have to look forwards too...
Just hit me. 186k that's the distance to the moon isn't it, I hope you make it back...lol
My miles are straight highway miles so I won't encounter problems at the same miles as most. I just put my first set of plugs in 5000 k's ago, one fan belt, and other than the 5 speed tranny going at 220,000km's I havn't done squat to this car but drive it and make money. Oh and at over 300,000 (of coarse I can only confirm 299,999) I still have 45% of my front brakes and 60% of my rears. My engine purrrs with 0.0 noise and 0.0 oil consumption or leaks. I change my oil at 10,000 k's.
Could use a new drivers seat sometime soon...

Do they program the new cluster with your correct miles? Or is another "same" cluster and you'll get another 299,000 KMs before you have the same problem again? I'm quite positive that nobody will put 599,998 KMs on their Corolla, but maybe...

Starts at zero and goes to ??? ??? and I let you know in 2 1/2 years when I hit the 600,000 mark.

Get this, toyota knows very well about this problem, but will not cover it it under any warranty. So you will be stuck at 299,999 Km until you get a new cluster. What if you dont get a new cluster? Can whoever force you to get a new one, or would you be committing odometer fraud? I wonder how emissions work when you go for inspection and it shows you did not travel at all?

Toyota's replacing mine under warranty or something like it. I was told if your car hits 299,999 in 5 years free install and cluster after five years you pay the install but Toyota will still give you the cluster. Actually I'm not sure if it's warranty or some kind of recall but none the less the cluster is free. As far as not replacing it you would only be hurting yourself, how would you know your fluid change intervals or tire rotations and other milage related services other than just guessing?
