03 corolla centre console door flap

on my 03 corolla the door flap hinge on centre console just below heating/ventilation dials is broken; toyota tells me it can't be fixed because it's part of the whole centre console trim - is this for real? what can i do? it keeps popping open as i'm driving.

Yeah, they are for real, it was engineered poorly. If you cant get one from a junk yard, use magnetic strips to hold it up.

My centre console door broke off the hinge. I repaired it using thin long screws from an old mobile phone & strengthened it with some clear epoxy glue.

Do you have any photographs of the magnetic strips? That seems like a brilliant idea.

And to OP, yeah, you will have to order a new console or go to a junk yard. Though I know that the TRD site offers blackwood and carbon fiber consoles/stereo trim, though I am not sure if it is just the trim pieces or if it replaces the whole center.

mine broke too, all i did was stick a small piece of paper at the bottom of the hinge, and it holds up just fine.. you cant see the paper either so its awesome.. no gluing drilling or disassembling.. took 5 seconds

Canada Stupid parts costs

Yes, happened to me also, BUT it was the bottom drawer, the spring snapped out of the bottom connector, and it doesn't stay in place now. The dealer here in Toronto, Canada est. the entire console to be $400 (oouch). Bad design or what, after all these years, car makers a like just can't make a solid door flap or console.
