Front brake pad question

when i rotate my tire last night, I notice that the inside brake pad is touching the rotor while the outside has a small gap. Is this normal or there's something wrong with the inside pad that it does'nt release the brake properly? if there's something wrong, how will i adjust the pads. this happens in both front brake.

thanks,

If anything, I think it's odd that the outer pad DOESN'T seat on the rotor. You don't really want a gap there, though obviously you don't want too much drag either. I've never owned a vehicle that totally separated the pad from the rotor when the brakes were released, my '07 Corolla included.

How much is the gap on the outside pad? Is the thickness of both pads about the same, or is one worn significantly more than the other?

Front pads

I agree with Jason. My 1st reaction would be to check if inside & outside pads are wearing evenly. If its not, the caliper might be faulty. I'd rule out brake fluid leaks from caliper and brake line. How is the vehicle braking?

Is there really a gap, or is the pad just beveled on the edge making it look like a gap?

like the others said, check for uneven wear between the inner and outer pads, that will tell you way more about how the caliper is functioning.

oh and there is no "adjustment" that you can make.

I've checked it again, and the pad thickness are the same, but this time it's only the outside pad of the left wheel has gap, the rest are sitting properly on the rotor. and i can only insert 4 thickness of copy paper on the gap so it's not much, but i didnt try to push it all the way, so is it just beveled? by the way the braking is normal, i did'nt notice any difference.

Thanks,

I would not worry about it, but I would monitor to see if the car begins to pull on one side or the other, which would indicate one of the calipers is not functionning properly. Also monitor the level of the brake fluid.
