USA new clutch

My 2005 XRS needs a new clutch, and Priority Toyota wants to charge me $2100 to replace it... anyone have any recommendations on types of aftermarket clutch kits or good places to go to get work done???

you could get the TRD clutch kit, it's only ~$400 (for just parts). toyota dealers should be willing to install any trd part for you too.

Don't get it done at the dealer, find a good independant shop. I bet it will be $1,200 at most.

How many miles??

When the tranny went in my 06 and I had Fountain Tire replace it and the labour was only $600.00 and I can't see where it would take much more time to replace a clutch. You need to check other shops prices and compare.

Never go to a dealer for work after warranty is done. Always go to an independant shop. The dealer will soak you for every dollar!

How many km/miles on the clutch? Is it slipping or is it another issue?

I understand the Corolla XRS used the 1ZZ-FE clutch, even though it's got the 2ZZ-GE engine. I also understand the Celica GT-S (for example) used a heavier duty clutch. You may consider upgrading to a different model clutch, in addition to getting a different brand, if you feel the OE clutch went out too quickly.

Well it's got aprox 57,600 miles. It's been driven daily by three different people at least... I think the original owner didn't know how to drive standard. Anyways, the clutch is definately slipping... and I might have to replace the flywheel too...

That's unfortuneate. My clutch (04 CE) has about 62 000mi currently on it and no sign of slipping.

Yes, someone doesn't know how to properly drive a stick - slipped the clutch way too much. I am amazed at the number of people who really abuse the clutch & tranny, but have no idea that they are not driving it correctly.

I have over 100k on mine, and it is still good, even with the wife driving it occasionally . Flywheel should at least be machined. If you have to replace it, it will be big $$. As I said earlier, make sure you ask around and fine a good independent shop.

I forgot to mention that when you have the tranny out you may want to consider replacing the input bearing on the tranny, you have over 60,000 so in another 60 it may have to come out again for either a tranny or the front input bearing depending how long you leave the bearing growl.

Yes, that and a new pressure plate. So in total: clutch, pressure plate, release bearing, and resurface the flywheel.

These parts are cheap compared to the labor involved if one fails.

Release bearing should be changed but I'm talking about the transmission output bearing in the transmission, thats what went with mine and from what I gather it's whats going on many others.

^IE, the "pilot bearing"? Could that make a chirping or growling noise while accelerating?
