Rack & Pinion Replacement?

I've recently taken my car for a wheel alignment to a local shop, and after watching them go back and forth with the car doing 2 road tests, they came to me and said, "my bushings have worn off" and that "the only solution would be a replacement of your rack and pinion" they finished the alignment and still the steering wheel is a bit off. The next day I took it to the dealer hoping they would goodwill a replacement but after getting their invoice they said nothing was wrong with the rack and pinion. However, I'm still worried because on their invoice it said "check for rack and pinion leaks" and "steering/suspension check". Who should I believe? And is my steering wheel ever going to be completely straight when I drive foreword, I mean I know there is a crown on the road but I've drive the car with a completely straighten steering wheel and have it do just that before.

If my understanding is correct, the dealer checked the rack and pinion (as they say it on the invioce), and found no problem. I would believe it. The local shop probably wanted to rip you off. The steering wheel alignment is a different problem. Take it to the dealer (or an independent shop - but I wouldn't trust the alignment place) and tell them the problem. It should be easy and cheap to fix it.
