never,never "flush" tranny !

i just read discussion on this forum about a/t fluid change or flush methods. i recently read discussions on "bat auto technical-index" also. bat makes sense. bottom line - where in the owners manual or sevice manual of any car does it say to flush ? i,m not a mechanic. i just read what a guy claiming to be a transmission mechanic stated. i,ll try to talk to some local good reputation tranny shops and ask them about it. will post later.

All dealerships do flushes. Highly unlikely that they would if it was detrimental. Draining only gets out 3 to 4 quarts of the 12. Flushing is the only way to change out all 12. The "flushing paranoia" is from years ago. The newer machines are safe.

Dealerships do a lot of things that isn't in the best interest of the customer. I guess I'm not really all that familiar with today's flushing machines to commnet on their efficacy or safety, but the reasons the dealer does it are two-fold: ease and profitability.

Agreed. However I said they wouldn't do things that they knew could be detrimental to their customers car. Most businesses are for profitability.

Yeah, I know what ya said, and I still don't necessarily agree.

I've seen a lot of crap done to my own cars to know that some folks are pretty unscrupulous. Again, I'm not judging transmission flush machines one way or the other because I just don't know enough about every model to know that they're all safe. You just gotta be careful out there, and know what maintenance requirements TOYOTA prescribes for your car, and not what services your Toyota DEALER will try to sell you.

Transmission flushing is a good case in point: the owner's manual does not list flushing as a service procedure. The service procedures from Toyota do not include flushing. It lists a drain/refill capacity, indicating that that is the proper service procedure.

maybe partial is the idea.

i have a friend that,s along time mechanic. everytime he changes the oil in his chevy lumina,3.1l, he replaces one pint of transmission fliud. he uses some kind of pump to suck it up thru the dip stick tube. btw = 95% of the lumina owners posting on a certain forum i read say if you first time change a lumina with over 60 k miles it,s quick death to the tranny . the old fluid acts as some type of sealant /glue ?? But corolla,s have the 100,000 mile fluid . go figure.

I am wondering if dealers like to tell you you need new rotors etc. when you have the oil changed. how do they know this if they do not rotate tires. do they just guestimate due to milage. i have a 2005 corolla le with 36,585 miles on it. they don;t even show you to prove it. thats what I don;t like. $3-400 of work that i dont even know if I really need
