2005 Corolla Check Engine Light P2239

I had the computer replaced back in 07/2008 due to the no start problem. Shortly after the computer was changed I got a check engine light P2239. I called the dealer and he said it was nothing to do with the computer and it was the O2 or cat going bad and not to really worry about it.

Now here it is almost 6 months later and it is still on. I have went from 34mpg down to 28mpg. Also when driving 55-65mph and hit the throttle to pass someone it fills like the tranny is slipping. Its hard to explain but its like you push the gas then let off then push it again then let off again. And does it till you get back out of the throttle. Will the O2/cat problem cause the car to act like the tranny is slipping or is the tranny going out as well? Which will also explain the drop in gas mileage.

Thanks,
Robert

Yes the O2 sensor will mess with the way the car drives, have it checked by a local mechanic that you trust.

A bad mass air flow sensor could be a likely culprit. I suggest trying to clean your mass air flow sensor with specialized mass air flow cleaner.

I would clean the MAF and IAT sensors, and then replace the A/F sensor, but use OEM, not Bosch. It maybe worth getting it tested, as it is quite expensive.
