Valve train type and belt

Question for the pros. Can someone tell me if my Corolla 2004 has the following:
1) Valve lifters with shims that require period adjustments or are these automatic lifters (no maintainance)?
2) Does the timing belt require replacement or is a chain type lasting forever?
thank you
Is there any type of major maintainance thing that needs to be done other than changing oil? i have 74000 miles and I have a new ticking noise from the engine and trying to troubleshoot

Must be 1ZZ-FE if so it has a chain. Valve train would have shims that can be replaced to adjust clearance. In most Toyota engines using this system the valve rarely need adjusting.

Do not know how long the chain lasts, but have not read posts of it wearing out, yet.

Use a section of rubber hose as a stethoscope to narrow down the noise area.

If under the valve cover would most likely be valve clearance. If in front of the engine where the timing chain is might be the chain. If from inside the block could be piston slap.

No maintenance other then what is in the owners manual.

With this many miles might check the condition of the transmission fluid.

9th Generation Corollas do not have a belt. The chain lasts the life of a properly maintained engine. The valves on this engine do not need periodic adjustment. The main keys to longevity in the Corolla engine (1zzfe) are oil changes and coolant services. The fan belt should be checked regularly and inspected for cracks, air filter inspected, sparkplugs every 100,000 miles.

Thank you. So no belt and no shims to replace. By coolant services what do you mean? the blue cooling fluid of the radiator?
Isn't the transmission fluid something found only in cars with an automatic transmission? I have a manual transmission.....

Coolant should be Toyota red. Manual transmissions have oil, and should be changed around 80-100k, just to be safe. They are more forgiving of fluid changes than automatics.
