Where can i find a procedure for replacing my engine coolant (Corolla 2004). I am a handy person, always change th eoil but never did the coolant....
thank you
Here is the coolant service procedure as per Alldata
COOLANT REPLACEMENT
DRAIN COOLANT CAUTION: To avoid the danger of being burned, do not remove the radiator cap while the engine and radiator are still hot, as fluid and steam can be blown out under pressure.
Remove the radiator cap.
Loosen the radiator and engine drain plugs, and drain the coolant.
Close the drain plugs. Torque: 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) for engine
ADD COOLANT
Slowly fill the system with coolant. HINT:
Use of improper coolants may damage engine cooling system.
Use "Toyota Long Life Coolant" or equivalent and mix it with plain water according to the manufacturer's directions.
Using of coolant which includesmore than 50 % (freezing protection down to -35°C (-31°F) or60% (freezing protection down to -50°C (-58°F)) of ethylene-glycol is recommended but not more than 70% .
DO NOT FURTHER DILUTE PRE-MIXED MANUFACTURER APPROVED ETHYLENE GLYCOL BASED COOLANT IF USED.
NOTICE:
Do not use an alcohol type coolant or plain water alone.
The coolant should be mixed with plain water (preferably demineralized water).

CHECK ENGINE COOLANT LEAK

Pump it to 118 kPa and check leakage.

Do you have a diagram or location of the engine drain plug? I still cannot find it to this day.
To drain the coolant there is a drain valve at the bottom of the radiator.

what do you do with used colant? I called my local sewerwater district they said there machine wont clean out glycol and gets put back in stream where fish, dogs play. I did a change once on beemer and just dumped some street rest in toilet. If there was a way to dispose of it i would.
wow, you pored it down the toilet? that goes to the sewer.
go to any jiffy lube and they recycle it there.
Here in Boston they have certian dates and times to drop off all your hazmats at local DPW yards. I worked at Autozone for a while and I know for a fact people would mix it in with their used oil and get rid of it that way.
You know this is a growing problem. I have done several DIY coolant flush jobs, and just for grins I ask the guy at the parts store what I can do with the coolant. They never know. That is total B.S. Talk to your town or city hall and get the right answer.
I worked at Autozone part time for a while and people would always ask where to bring it. Besides a recyle "day" or paying a garage to take it you are stuck. We used to have regular customers that would take their own oil to the back and dump it in the vat. They would sneak antifreeze in and just leave it on the side making it our problem.
