I installed an injen cai intake for my 06 corolla s and i seem to be getting a gas fume smelling smoke out the exhaust. does anyone know what is causing this? Please help!!!!!!!!
If you just installed it, your ECU could still be adjusting to the new mixture...this may cause a change in exaust fumes. Do you mean from your tail-pipe? Is there acually smoke comming out? That shouldnt be happening. Did your CAI bypass your MAF?
No it did not by pass maf. the application called for installing existing oem maf . The white in color plumes are coming out of my tail pipe. to me it seems to be running rich (almost as if I were trying to drive a dirtbike with the choke on even after it is warmed up) I am now thinking some how my maf shorted out during the install. I did call injen (the manufacturer of the cai) and the tech said to drive it but I got a check engine light and the car seemed to be running really rough and had a hard time picking up speed and barely made it to the end of my street before I had to turn around because it was comming close to stalling
In order to prevent electrical problems the installation instructions called for disconnecting the battery cables. Have you ever cleaned the MAF sensor?
yes I disconnected the battery cables before I removed the front bumper which was step 2. actually just got a call from my mechanic and it was my ecu fried and it was not due to cai install. thanks all for the help
well Toyota likes to get the most miles per gallon out of your engine, so i wouldn't be surprised if the poor ecu got over worked lol
plus from everyone I've talked to its essential after installing a new intake you let your corolla idle for about 15 min to let your maf sensor recalibrate

no toyota put bad batches of ecu's in alot of 9th gen toyotas I researched and it sounds like the ecu craps out at 30,000 miles.
