ticking noise at idle in my 03 corolla S

I had just noticed a ticking sound when my car is at idle. The RPM's are normal and the car runs great. I popped the hood and the sound seems to be coming from around the air filter, does anyone have an idea what this might be? and is it bad? Could it be related to the o2 sensor or the caty converter?

Is there any debris in your air box that is bouncing around?

No, I checked the airfilter and box and also the oil level and everything seems to be normal. It sounds like it is coming more from just behind the airbox, and when I put my hand there I can feel it.

The problem seemed to go away after a few days and hasn't returned, so I wouldn't worry to much about it. If it returns I will let you know. But I do have a ticking sound only when I'm idling coming from the engine is this normal and if not do you know what it could be. The car is running fine except that ticking sound.

Ticking sound coming from engine

I have a 2003 corolla and when it is idling there is a ticking sound coming from the engine. The car is running fine, so I was just wondering is this normal and if not what might it be?

The ticking is most likely that evaporative emission solenoid that clips onto the air cleaner cover. I'm not sure if you could wrap it with something to quiet it down, but maybe.

engine making ticking sound but only at Idle

Hi I have a 2003 corolla S and it is running fine but I am noticing a ticking sound when it is idling, similair to a tractor sound. It has 120,000kms on it, so I'm just wondering if this is normal or not. And if not any suggestions to what it might be. I just had the oil changed and the rpms are still normal, but its been doing this for a month or so so am just curious to why. If you can help that would be apprecited.

The ticking at the air box is the vacuum switching valve, and it is normal. I noticed mine is louder when it is colder out.

yes, the ticking is the vsv purging for the gasses from the charcoal canister to enter back into the engine.

My car does the same thing. There is a VSV (vacuum switching valve) near the air cleaner assembly that clicks rapidly on and off. It belongs to the fuel evaporative system. You have nothing to worry about.
