burnt clutch

I was trying to put my '06 CE up on ramps today when the ramps decided to slip about 6" across the garage floor. Because I'm kinda dumb, I decided to chase them with the clutch engaged and the engine revving for a couple of seconds before stalling.

That's the first time I've smelled the smell of burning clutch, and whew that really smelled.

Any chance I did any kind of permanent damage? I haven't noticed a difference in how it drives, but that smell really lingered until I drove around with the fan blasting and the windows down, and it has me kinda worried.

Thanks.

No, you didn't do any damage. I've smelled my clutch a few times. When my mother was in town, she drove the car a few times and wasn't used to driving a stick, and I smelled the clutch a few times after she really slipped it to start moving.

You did take some miles off of the clutch, but if it still drives OK just say it was a lesson learned and don't do it again. I remember the first time my wife burnt my clutch, and the second, and the third...

Ramps - I use 2x10's that I built myself - really easy. Cut an angle on the front piece, then have enough room to put your tire on the first piece. Then cut another angle on the second piece (will be shorter than first), nail and glue to the top of the first piece, then nail and glue a short stop piece (or two) on top of the second piece. This is much easier to drive up vs. ramps and doesn't slide. If you want higher, then use another piece. You can find some detailed instructions and pics on the internet. It is like stair steps vs. a steep ramp, much better for the clutch.
