UK Throttle Body Cleaning

Hi, what is a throttle body cleaning and or a base idle speed adjustment and what would these procedures do to make an engine run smoother. The reason I ask is I have a terrible Idle engine vibration and the corolla only has 48k and this started 10 months ago. The vibration is so bad that when any door is opened you not only feel it but the door jumps, you feel it in the floor, the S-wheel and parts of the dash vibrate, and this is when the car is in PARK, what is the problem?

could be a bad motor mount, have you checked those out?

10 months ago at 38k I had 1 m.m. replaced. However the original vibration that I reported to the dealer did not go away with the new m.m.

since your problem only happens when its in park, i say you may have another bad motor mount, or 2 even. it is also a possibility that the dealer replaced a motor mount that didnt need replacing. just to clarify, does the engine run rough, or is the engine running smooth, but you're just getting vibration inside the cabin?

Thanks for the reply, Just to refresh the issue, 2 weeks ago I had 2 guys with the ASE on the shirt and the District Service Rep and they all told me this vibration is Normal. How can it be when from day one the engine ran so smooth I did not know it was on or off. Now to your ?. I also think it is another or two bad m.m, but they will not say, as for the engine , it performs good with same MPG no lost there but the engine shakes just like the doors etc. The only time when it does not is when I turn off the engine. Could they have compressed the bolt that hold the M.M. or put it in backwards, because the engine is from what I see and feel is not properly isolated from the platform... any futher suggestions?

if you gently lift the engine from the bottom using a block of wood against the oil pan (and a floor jack) you should be able to remove the weight from the mounts. if the car gets smooth again then its a mount or mount. then you can use a pry bar to pry the engine around near the various mounts to isolate which mount or mounts are the problem.

what leads me to believe that its another motor mount (or 2) thats bad is because it only happens in park. I apologize for explaining this in my previous post. What hapens when you put it into drive, and have your foot on both the brake and the gas, the engine will torque and the weight of the engine will rely on a different motor mount for support. Try what bitter suggested.

Check the spark plugs and the wiring, also check the idle air control senser (IAC), it can sometimes get dirty from carbon or dirt build-up and cause poor idle quality, and i dont know about corollas but some cars come with a vacuum transfer hose that goes from the intake manifold to the IAC motor, and if the vacuum line is broke or dilapidated, it can can make the engine loose vacuum and run rough or even stal.
