2005 Corolla CE strut options?

Hello all ^^

I'm posting on here for a friend. Their 2005 Corolla CE has 42k miles, and all four struts are blown. She'd like to go with something more durable. I know nothing about corollas so I am trying to find some good information on what's available. Any help would be much appreciated ^^> Thanks!

Nate

KYB GR-2's would be the best bet, they ride like OEM, handle a little better, and last a rather long time.

I went with monroe. http://www.monroe.com/products/monro...ject+Object%5D

Monro-Matic Plus® They were easy to replace and ride smooth. I replaced the front dust bumper and boots, the rears were hard plastic so I didnt have to replace them. I didnt have to replace the mount but I did have to make a new felt dust cover and I added grease. The biggest disapointment was that the car had no right rear spring bushing installed at the factory and when I did the job I had to purchase one from dealer. So I had to install that one twice.

Hey, I didn't know Monroe made shocks for our cars. I've used a number of Monroe products in the past and have generally been happy with them. Would you mind writing a detailed account of how the Monroe struts ride compared to the stock ones? I feel like the stock struts make the ride rather "choppy". Did the Monroes refine the ride at all compared to stock? Or are they a very close original equipment replacement?

The monroe strut is not quite as stiff a ride as oe. The strut piston shaft is a 1or2 inches longer than oe which made my car sit a tad higher than oe and gave the strut that much more room to do its magic. I liked the moog bumper and dust boot I purchased with this set up, it was made of a harder rubber/plastic instead of the oe rubber that tears up at 30.000 miles. I was told by the Oreily stafff that the monroe is a better grade of strut than oe. Only time will tell. Dont expect to much from a car with struts though they all seem to ride similar.
I still have some other issues with the front end Im dealing with. Check out my other post.

Could just get a set of Tokico adjustables and dial them in to whatever spec you want. It'll be pricey, and take some time and test driving, but you'll get exactly what you want.

Thanks for that. My Cadillacs have struts also, and the ride is VASTLY different from the Corolla's ride. It's all in how they're valved. If the Monroes ride a bit softer, to me that's a great thing.

Thanks again.

ok so I am a newbie to cars. like I don't know how to even change my oil, yet. what is a strut? I want better handling on my 07 Corolla CE and I think the suspension set up is way too soft. would struts help? how about aftermarket springs? do i need new aftermarket shocks or whatever the thing the spring goes over? can the stock set up take aftermarket springs?

Check this site out for some different struts for your corolla then go to the manufacturers sites and read up on them. You can surely stiffen the ride of your corolla with a new set of stiff struts.

The KYB GR2's on that site are a great deal, and they're a good shock/strut. I use them on my cavi.
