Noise when off?! - Toyota Nation Forum : Toyota Car and Truck Forums

I have heard a weird "buzzing/ humming" noise coming from the rear underside drivers side when the car is off. It does not make the noise right away. I have heard it twice and it was about 4 hours after I turned the car off. Of course when I crawl under the car I could not figure out where it was coming from and then it stopped.
Please help me! I have owned this 05 Corolla LE for almost 2 months and I really do not want it to die on me. Any suggestions?

I don't recall ever hearing it before, but I would guess it was the fuel system venting thru the EVAP sys. This is normal and probably more frequent in warmer climates, such as yours.

The ECM will do a Evap system test about five hours after the vehicle has been turned off. I think the vacuum pump used to run the test is mounted on the charcoal canister. It will run for a few minutes and then shuts off.

I heard that noise in the garage one morning also. Thought I was hearing things. Figured it was just an emissions purge pump (and it looks like it is).

it is in the manual that it will do that. Mine also came with a brocure saying what it does and why it does it but I forget what it says. It is normal though so no worries
