normal rpm,s=???

2004 with automatic tranny. dealing with "cel" nowadays. cleaned maf today. cel disapeared for now. with engine normal temp with the a/c on parked with tranny in "drive" i noticed rpm,s sitting on about 900 . idle seemed to be a little rough. at that low idle is it possible that the alternator ain,t charging the battery. for example if you was stuck for 10 hours in hurricane evacuation would it kill ? soon i,ll replace the a/f sensor. will keep you guys posted. have a good weekend !

The alt might put out 1/2 its max current at idle. If 80 amps this would be 40 amps. If you exceed this load at idle the battery will eventually go dead.

Get the code read to save time.

Have your charging system load tested as well - free at most large parts stores. I'll checked my stats tomorrow and reply back with the RPMs - if that's any help.

BTW: I have a daughter going to Tulane... she (and we) love the area and all that it has to offer.

I checked my car yesterday - sorry for the delay.

Anyway, I am smooth as glass at 900 rpms. How do your plugs look?

Good luck - and I got your email, thanks!

George

the 1zz is known to idle "weird".

you can look into cleaning the throttle body or if you have the DBW kind - perhaps cleaning around the IACV and PCV.

Hope you find the cause for your symptoms.
