I would probably go with XtraVision as mine (didnt know until I replaced the bulb) already had them, so if you go standard It could be dimmer. If you want white...get the SilverStar Ultra (or similar, several companies make them) but they have an expected life of 1 year since they burn hotter. And for $50 a pair thats pretty expensive.

Silvania XtraVision, GE Nighthawk, Philips Vision Plus, Philips Xtreme Vision, etc. They're all good bulbs to use.

Please do not use HIDs in your stock housings. Your stock housings were designed for halogen bulbs, and not HIDs. You scatter a lot of glare and the effect looks pretty silly.

Right. And he was asking for replacement bulbs. HID lights are not good replacement bulbs for halogens. You'd have to buy entirely different housings. You suggested using HIDs for the lows without saying that you need to buy completely different housings to do it right.

A lot of people retrofit HIDs into their halogen housings. You can buy an eBay kit for 100 bucks, making the temptation very strong. A lot of education needs to be done about headlight optics.

Education or research? Either way the person will eventually look into HIDs instead of replacement halogen bulbs.

Why limit the choices available?

Let the original poster of this thread decide what would be best by giving as much information as possible.

Which is fine as long as an HID conversion is done the right way. Too many people don't know that putting HID lamps into halogen light housings is a dangerous thing to do. Call it what you want, education or research. The result is the same either way: safer headlamps.

Don't limit the choices available, but make a comprehensive recommendation. If the recommendation is for HIDs, ensure that the recommendation is ALSO for projector housings at the same time. They should go together to be a safe solution.

I agree: as much information as possible. Only when comprehensive recommendations are made, to include all parts necessary for a change, will a safe modification result.

That site makes my point about retrofitting HIDs into halogen housings. About half the folks on there have put HIDs into their halogen housings. You said I was "silly" for pointing out that you must use projectors for a proper retrofit, but improper retrofits are made all the time. Any measure of safety is always worth noting.
