Hi, any drivers in this forum have an 04 LE? I have close to 50k.Bought the car new. I want to know how does your car idle and how does it drive? My car has a terrible viberation that started about 10k ago. The car is A/T. The steering wheel also vibes, the dealer says it is normal, everything they have checked is ok. I disagree with them since it started 10k ago. Does anyone have a similar problem or do I have the only 'rolla that shakes, rattle and 'rolla...
Well I dont drive an 04 but I can tell you that your steering wheel shouldnt vibrate...although the speeds are 55-65 around here, whats the highway speed out there? How are your tires? Are they balanced? What about alignment? Does your car drift when your hands arent on the wheel?
wait, does your car vibrate when at idle or when driving, could be different problem depending on situation
Thanks for the reply, Here is what happens. With the engine in idle the moment it starts is when the vibration starts, it does not go away. Now put it in drive and the vibration continues as it does in idle. If going 30 or 65 the same vibration continues, in other words it does not increase with change in speed. The S/W, gas pedel, seats, and mirror all can be felt with the same vibration. Toyota says it is normal, they have checked and that is their finding. I disagree because the problem started 10k ago when I reported it, now the only time this type of vibration stops is when I turn the engine off. What do you think...

I agree the S/W should not vibrate, but it does and it is a continuous shake, remember I'm still in park and in idle. It is not the tires or W/B. Now put it in drive and you have the same shake and it transfers into your hands. Now go 60 mph and you have the same vbration, it does not "in" or "decrease" with speed. Now stop and open the door and you can see the door ajar vibrate... and Toyota says this is normal and I disagree since I reported this 10k ago we have been going round and round and I am ouy of options. Oh, it is not the M/Mts...
Yeah can you see your engine vibrating all over the place if you pop the hood?^^
Yes, but it is a rather controlled vibration, it does not flop like a fish, you can feel it and like I previously said if you open the doors when in park there you can see the doors vibrate, almost like a bench grinder on your work table sort of makes things hop around. I had 1 M/Mount RxR about 10K ago which is what the dealer said was the root cause of my original complaint, but the moment I took the car away the same vibration continues to this very day almost a year and 10k ago. When I have some time to kill I'm going to drive 40 miles to the next T-Dealer and start over like its the first time, In the meantime if you have any more suggestions please inform... Thanks
My car does have a vibration at idle. I feel that its normal. The 1zzfe engine is reliable but not the most refined engine out there. For example my parents have a 2008 Camry with a 2.4L 4-cyl engine which idles smooth as glass, the reason being is that the 2.4L eng has balance shafts to compensate for vibration and the 1.8L 1zzfe eng used in the Corolla/Matrix does not.

Thanks, that is more information then the dealer or the factory rep to date has told me, However true that may be, I can tell you since I am the owner is that the first 39k my 1.8 ran smooth as glass.Matter of fact there were times I did not know if the engine was on or off. Now the last 10k and 1 year I get this vibration, that is why I am very puzzled and seeking an answer. I plan on going to anothar dealer to see what they can do...

There is one more contributing factor that I have encountered in regards to the deterioration of smooth idle due to an aging vehicle. The motor mounts. My neighbor has a 2003 Corolla w/105,000mi and was complaining of a rough idle or vibration felt through the steering wheel. I opened the hood the engine itself idled smooth but a great deal of vibration was felt through the steering wheel. I took an educated guess replacing the motor mounts since they are the only thing that isolates the body from engine vibration. I tryed one mount first, the mount on the right side of the engine bay by the belt area, I got lucky and the new mount reduced the vibration by 70%. The local dealer stocked a few of them, the parts person stated that they were a fairly common part to fail.

I have a 2003 Toyota Corolla Le with 111,000 miles that vibrates at idle when im at a stop light. I replaced the front engine mount and I was thinking about the side mount by the belts. Is it hard to change? Think it would solve the problem?
