Where's the MAF located?

A picture of the MAF's location would be helpful for the mechanically challenged. Is it easy to remove and clean the sensors?

It's located in the rubber intake tube, directly next to (to the left) of the black plastic air filter housing. I believe it's held in by two screws. It should be easy to remove the sensor, but before you try to clean it, I would ask what your reasoning is. Is the car hesitating or stalling? Is your check engine light on?

Welcome to the forum!

P0171 -- but the car is running fine. I read somewhere a dirty MAF might clear this up. If it's the O2 sensor, where is that loacted?

The front O2 sensor is right on the exhaust manifold. I think there's also a rear one after the catalytic converter. But I've also read that the front sensor isn't really an O2 sensor, that it's really an air/fuel ratio sensor. I'm still not real straight on the distinction there...

I'll look through my 2007 service information and see what Toyota's techs do for a P0171.

That's the stock 2ZZ-GE aluminum intake manifold.

The 1zz has the black plastic intake manifold, while the 2zz has the aluminum intake manifold.

A bad MAF would cause the car to be unable to rev past 3k RPMS.

CLeaning the MAF might help, but please remember to disconnect the battery to avoid damaging the sensor.

Also disconnecting the battery will cause the ECU to relearn your driving behavior, which may help with the idle issue.

If this helps, I cleaned mine at 31000 mi. I was getting around 28 mpg and now I am getting around 30 mpg like I used to.
