Canada Question About 06 Corolla Sport

I have a 2006 Corolla Sport and I am looking for a cold air intake. I don't know which brand to get but by the info that I'm gathering the injen seems to be the most popular. But when I do a search I can find an injen cold air intake for a 2003 corolla sport for $160, but if it specifies 2006 it's $250. In this aspect is the 2003 different from the 2006 Corolla Sport or is it just an old posting and it could be used in all 9th generation Corolla Sport.

Thanks for your time,

Sean

i believe the throttle bodies are different between the 03-04 and the 05+ models and that's why there are different intakes. I could be wrong though; someone else chime in on this.

Yeah, the 2003-2004 cars have a conventional throttle body, and the 2005-2008 cars have a Drive By Wire (DBW) throttle body. The intakes are different depending on the style. To the original poster, you need one that fits an 05-08 model.

Canada Thanks

I was only asking because I would rather spend $100 less. I appreciate the information.

Dont bother with a cold air intake unless your upgrading you exhaust (even then its a very minimal gain), try a lightweight underdrive pully to reduce power losses or a short-shifter for quicker shifts.

go ahead and buy an intake, you don't NEED to get an exhaust, it helps if you want more power, but you don't need it. getting an intake gives your engine a more aggressive sound and if that's all you're really going for, then get an intake. but yea, if you want power, then you should also think about getting things like an upgraded exhaust, pulleys (not worth it in my opinion, but whatever...), short shifters, upgraded clutch and flywheel, good tires, etc.

i dont think it matters if you've got a DBW or a cable driven. all you're doing is connecting the cold air to the opening of the TB. it's not like a supercharger where the diff. throttle bodies would come into play. just get a cold air for the 1zz and not for the 2zz
