USA Upgrade PCM firmware

I have an issue with a stored P0133 code and soon thereafter the M.I.L. is set. The issue is addressed with TSB EG017-07 "M.I.L. “ON” DTC P0133 (ONLY)"

Reading the TSB it seems that the original firmware improperly addresses this to what the factory says are "... certain driving conditions" and upgrading will correct it.

Has anyone experienced this? Has anyone changed out the O2 sensor and not seen this condition anymore?

I fall within the guidelines of being within the 96 month 80,000 mile requirement for a free upgrade of the PCM programming. I'm checking with anyone out there who has experience with this before going ahead with the upgrade and is there anything I should be aware of first.

Thanks in advance,

Al

I'd make a visit to your Toyota dealer and have them look at it. I don't see what you have to lose by having them re-flash the code on the PCM. If it fixes your problem, you're done. If it doesn't, you'll have to troubleshoot some more. But I wouldn't replace any parts on it yet, knowing that Toyota has a fix for your issue that involves no out-of-pocket expense.

USA PCM flash

Jason,

Exactly what I am thinking. Need to check first with the forum because you can't go back to original PCM image. The only obstacle is something I should have mentioned first. The car has to have a persistent M.I.L. before service will perform the upgrade. As of now the MIL has been cleared. I will have to wait until it appears again.

Thanks

Al

I wouldn't worry much about them messing something up with the PCM. As you said first, the PCM is covered by the federal emissions warranty out to 80,000 miles or 96 months, so if something goes awry, you'll be fully covered there.
