Are they necessary service???

I have 2003 Corolla and brought it to Toyota dealer for 60K service about a month ago.

The reason I decided to take it to this Toyota dealership in the first place was the estimate they gave me over the phone. I shopped around and surprisingly their price was very reasonable. I thought, if the price is the same, why not getting the job done by TOYOTA people, right? Well, I was wrong. Their “actual” price was much higher, which they didn’t tell me until the job was completed. On top of that, they told me I needed…
1.Serp belt replacement – they said there are cracks on it
2.Efi Decarbon service
3.Power Steering fluid exchange

Ughh!!! Why did I bring my car to the dealership? I'm not 18 anymore, this isn't my first car, I should know better!!!

Well, I told them I can’t get those done today, and only paid for 60K service which was about $300. But, I’m still thinking about these. Do I need these services? Is it scam? What if I really need it?

Any advice? Anyone? Thank you~

1. depends on the condition, how bad are the cracks, all serp belts have cracks after a few thousand miles, but if it is missing ribs, then you should get it changed. Might want to go to a local mechanic, might be way cheaper. I would not push the belt another 30K miles, I would change it now for piece of mind.

2. Scam

3. Likely a scam, 60K miles on you car is nothing.

Concur.

You can change the PS fluid yourself. Use a baster or a push pump out of something like a soap dispenser to remove the fliud then refill with new. Do this between drives unit the fluid is clear again.

Thank you guys~

I checked it myself but didn't see any missing/broken ribs. All I saw was small cracks across (it's hard to explain but looked like bunch of tiny cracks you see when you expands a rubber band... hope it makes sense...).

I will still bring it to a local place and ask if I need a serp belt replaced, just to be sure. I'm glad to find out I don't need other two. That's a relief!

I'm so glad I found this site! Thank you~
