cannot turn off headlights '05 corolla le

i am pulling my hair out - have read many manuals , called many toyota dealers , have the inspection stickers placed so as not to block the light on the light sensor on the top of the dashboard - still , I CANNOT TURN OFF THE HEADLIGHTS - the dealers say that is how it is - period . isn't there a fuse , a relay , or a module that could be pulled out ? ( without messing up the obd II , of course ) will i have to install my own cut-off switches ? i thought i was the boss of the car , not the car the boss of me . i am super-peeved ! whenever i drive out of my garage , at 5 a.m. in the morning , my headlights shine in my poor neighbor's bedroom window - it wakes them up , big time .... plus , why waste headlight life , by having them turned on , on a bright sunny day ?

sooo, you're saying you want to get rid of the daytime running lights feature? I haven't done the DIY yet myself but I know there are some on this forum who have who can give their 2 cents to help you. All I know is that you have to cut one of the wires coming out of the DRL module underneath the driver's side dash. Or, what you can do, and what I sometimes do, is before you turn on your car put the parking brake just one click up, just ONE, it shouldn't be enough to prematurely wear your brake shoes and your DRLs won't turn on until you put the parking brake all the way down.

the DRL mod IS different between the 03-04 and the 05+ models. for the older 9th gens, it's a yellow wire that you cut and ground I believe but for the 05+ I think you cut one of the red/white stripe wires, not sure which one though. oh and btw, stop yelling. hahaha
