USA 2008 Camry - Burning oil?

My Camry with a total of 22400 miles on it is due for an oil change soon but in preparation for that I checked the oil and found it was incredibly low. There was still oil on the dipstick but not very much. The cover of the engine also shows a greasy/oily residue on some parts of it. I'm bringing it in to the Toyota dealer soon.

A friend says I might have a blown head gasket already (yikes!). The dealer says it might be a bad seal. Either way it should still be under warranty but I'm down on the car since Toyota's are supposed to be of high quality.

Any other ideas here what the issue might be?

This is a Corolla forum. You might want to try the Camry forum at the following link to see if anyone else has had a similar problem:

Did you check the oil right after the last oil change or is this the first time you checked it since it was last changed? It could have been something as simple as someone did not put enough oil in last oil change. I highly highly doubt it is a blown headgasket. So if it was filled to the full mark, you should see a bit of oil in your parking spot if it is a bad seal.
