2003 Corolla Clutch safety switch?

I was wondering if the Corolla has a safety switch that makes sure that the clutch is depressed before the starter will engage? If, so were is it located and is it hard to get to? On my Corolla I have to literally push the clutch through the floor board (exageration) to get the car to start.

I believe all Toyotas with manual transmissions use a clutch safety switch. It's located at the top of the clutch pedal.

Thanks for all of the help. I look forward to getting my head up under the dash and my feet a kickin (LoL). The photobucket pictures really helped!

It's mounted to the firewall near the top of the clutch pedal. I hate this switch, as I have to push my clutch pedal through the carpet also. I'm thinking of jumpering the connection. I wonder if the switch is Normally Open or Normally Closed?

hmm the corolla i normalyl drive is really deep too..

i valet cars and a lot of the valets cant figure out why my car wont start...
all manual cars have a clutch switch.. unless its broken...
in which case it is stuck closed.. as in a closed circuit..

in a basic circuit... it has to be a closed circuit for the device to work.. if you were to just bypass the switch by connecting the two wires leading to the switch.. you wont need to activate that switch when starting..

*i have never looked at this switch so i dont know what it looks like.. or how it actually works. (there may be three wires or somethign) but that is what the fundamental idea of a switch is...

Jeeps don't have clutch safety switches.

But my point is, I don't know if the circuit has to be OPEN for the starter to engage or CLOSED. The current doesn't actually RUN through that circuit (if it did, it'd have to be closed, you're right). In the days of everything on the chassis being computer-controlled, there's some weird stuff out there. For example, the PRNDL indicator lights on my parents' '05 Acura MDX is wired backwards from what you'd expect. The gear selector OPENS the circuit of the chosen gear, and the light on the gear indicator light only lights when the circuit opens.

When I get the chance to look at the switch I may also try and by-pass (make the starter engages whether the clutch is depressed or not) this circuitry. Were have the good old days gone? It was a given that when you start a manual transmission car, you either push in the clutch or put it in neutral and the car would start. But with the idiots in the world now days and hungry lawyers wanting to sue for someone else's ignorance. The car companies try and cover the rear-ends and install a switch that will eventually go bad and we as customers have to replace the item or become creative. Just my 2 cents worth.

Sorry for the late reply, but I just joined up. According to the wiring diagram the clutch switch is normally open.
