turning ingnition problem.

06 corolla ce.

well, when i'm turning the key to start the car, it sometimes doesn't start like it used to. Normally, it would crank 3~4 times then engine would start with abrupt high rpm then immediately goes steady 24~25k?

but sometimes, it would crank for 6~8 times. and then engine starts w/ low rpm about well below 21k? then work it's way up to 24~25k? steady.(in about 1~2 secs)

and sometimes it would crank normally but the rpm doesn't kick up like it normally did.

maybe premium gas isn't right for corolla? or maybe air filter is dirty?(it's cold air intake also.. AEM brand)

thx. : )

No, don't use premium fuel. Read the owner's manual -- it'll tell you everything you need to know. Regular fuel (87 octane) is the fuel to use. Aftermarket intakes can cause problems as well, especially if oil from the filter gets on the MAF sensor. I would recommend ditching the filter if you have an oiled type and get an AEM Dryflow filter. It's dry...you don't have to oil it.

it is AEM dry filter.

and about Premium gas, wouldn't I benefit more gas mileage and maybe more power from Premium gas? also maybe healthier for the engine ?

No, a common misunderstanding. the higher octane grades of gas do NOT equate to more power potential, they only reduce the risk of pre-ignition/detonation in higher compression/performance engines, that's ALL.

you could put regular in a car that needs premium as long as you dont rev it high too. its all dependent on the compression ratio.
but i have heard a friend say his car needs regular. but if he uses medium grade, hell get better gas mileage.. so it turns out to be cheaper for him to run that... but thats what he says...

how many miles on the car?!
check pcv valve, idle air control valve? im not positive how these corollas are.. air filter?

my guess would involve a vacuum hose somewhere....
