Well first off you will need to rent a strut compressor, start there. :-)

alright here we go.
number one.
DO NOT START UNBOLTING CRAP. thats how people get hurt especially when working with struts.

step1: jack up the car, secure it with jackstands, whatever. make it safe to work on.
step2: remove the wheel
step3: unbolt the strut from the hub assembly. -be careful with any brake lines or abs sensors.. and all that stuff. support the control arm with a jackstand or somethign so it doesn't fall.. but you don't really have to i suppose.
step 4:with the hood open, unbolt the three bolts around the strut tower DO NOT LOOSEN THE CENTER NUT.
step 5: remove the strut/spring assembly from the car, attach the spring compressor to the spring... compress it..
step 6:remove the center nut that i said not to remove before.... only after you are sure the spring compressor is securely holding the spring.
step 7: remove the top hat, slide the spring out, and slide the new lowering springs on. make sure the new spring goes on in the same positon the original spring came off...

step 8: put it all back together... making sure you use the correct torque requirements.

its pretty simple. but the scary part is the spring compression part.. some people like to have a shop do that for them.. even if its just takign the strut/spring assembly there and having them swap the spring out.

when you have everything back together, get an alignment.

cheers!

I bought new lowering springs for my car and I am taking them to Meineke to have them install the springs.

The dealership where I bought my car was going to charge me $780 for parts and labor. So instead, Meineke will do it for $100.

thanks everyone i did it today before i got a chance to look on here. it worked out fine (so far) i will be getting a alignment tomorrow. it was easy as cake was at a Air Force Base car shop and they had a compressor they charged 7.50 each spring and i got a lift so i didnt have to worry about all those jacks took about 3 hours by my self it was a fun thing to do. took the guys working longer to compress the thing then i did for me to take them off

haha if you are careful and resourceful you dont need a spring compressor. but it would be a very good idea to get one. i am good with my hands thats why i just started unbolting stuff. it only took me and a buddy two hours to put on all four springs not knowing what to do. and the XRS you have to basically take out the back seat to get to the top of the strut. its only that and the bottom bolt. for the rear
