Rim Help

I want to lower my car 2 inches, I have the springs and right now I have the stock rims (15 in) and I want to get rims that are 17 inches but was not sure if I should get the rims first then drop the car, or does it even matter what order I get them.

I want to make sure that the 2 inch drop won't affect 17 inch rims, or should I just got to 16?

find a set of 17s that you like, post up their specs and then we can tell you if the drop will affect them. most likely, you'll be fine, a 2" drop is not that drastic.

It really depends on the rims and what offset they have. To give you an example, I'm dropped 2” (H&R race springs) with 09 Corolla Xrs 17” X 7” rims with 40mm offset and 225/45-17 which keeps the speedo at the factory settings and no rubbing.

if you get 17 inch rims. it should not matter.
but this fact is dependent on a few things.

the best way to do it is get rims that have the same offset as stock. this will prevent the rims rubbing on the caliper.
as for tires. you would ideally and get a tire that is exactly/ closest/ within 3% of the stock tire height.
this will prevent the need to adjust your speedo. and the smaller sidewall in the tire will improve handling.
stock sizing is 195/65R15
if you were to get 17 inch rims you would want something like 205/50R17 which will only show the speedo slower by .3 mph

here use this http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp
you can make sure you get the right size rim as well.

good luck.

hmm that link just took me to one of tires racks main pages not a specific wheel. but im not certain on the stock offset. i have steelies on the corolla i drive and dont intend on modding. the stuff i said was just general info on wheels.

the poster above me might have better info. he has wheels and tires on his car... hes even got wider tires than what i suggested. which would inprove the handling a bit more too.
or you could call up tire rack or something. i think theyd be able to give you a definitite answer

Here is another great wheel calculator. You can compare different tire sizes and rim sizes and see how much closer to your suspension, how much farther the tire will stick out and the different in the speedometer.

Most wheel shops don't know squat anyways about proper fitment.

I would rather do my own research than have somebody tell me what they think is best for my car!

Seriously dude, to me you're just begging to be ripped off right now.
