The 2009 also has slightly more horse power....so it could be something else besides weight?

All things equal as far as comfort level you got her beat by a mile! Your car is doing what it does best, functional daily vehicle with the extra amenities. More get up and go means a sacrifice in fuel and money!

well the axle ratios are bigger by about .4 in the 09 and it wieghs about give or take 220 lbs also the engine in the 07 gets to max torque 200 rpms faster and also if im not corrected the dyno charts for the 07 corolla are much smoother than the 09

also the diameter of the tires could be affecting your acceleration

Normal for a throttle-by-wire system. There's a little delay and then the engine figures out that you've stomped your foot down. The 07 Corolla S is throttle-by-wire as well...

All the Corollas (05+ except 2ZZ-GE XRS that was cable driven) were also drive-by-wire so if his 2009 lags more than the 2007 Corolla S then it should not be normal.

Other than that, yes the ~300 lbs extra weight makes the acceleration slower.

Starting from a stop or while at speed? Along with the facts RED posted about the car differences, if starting from a stop then maybe she was using a better rpm to take off at. Maybe her fuel tank was near low and yours was near full to where the weight made the difference.
