When I first bought the car, dealer says change oil every 5k. Personally, I've been changing it every 4k till now. I know the magic number is 3k for most cars.
How often do you guys who owns an 2003 S, change your engine oil?
I drive a Matrix, but with the same 1zz-fe motor as your 2003 Corolla S.
Engines are more technologically advanced to have oil change intervals @ 5k instead of the old standby of 3k that you might have heard from one of those Jiffy Lube commercials.
most of the time with synthetic u can change at 5000 or more but with conventional i think its around 3000. just check the oil color. if its still nice and goldish yellow then ur fine but black changit

As far as I remember, manual says Harsh conditions: 5K and uner normal conditions 7.5K
You can go longer than 5k if you're running a high quality synthetic oil, but perform a used oil analysis (from a third party lab like blackstone) before doing so to ensure that the additives haven't broken down completely yet.

5,000 miles is completely safe for any API-SM conventional oil. It's what the manual recommends. Oil chemistry has changed dramatically since Jiffy Lube invented the 3,000 mile deal back in 1968.
Here you go, here's a used oil analysis for 6,300 miles on an '03 Corolla with Pennzoil Yellow Bottle (conventional). The wear was so good, Blackstone recommended pushing the interval to 7,000 miles. Really hard to argue with a good conventional oil.
I bought my used 04' Corolla with 45K. I switched to Mobil 1 0W-30 Advanced Fuel Economy (full synthetic). After two oil changes at 45K and 50K, I decided to extend my last one to 57,500 (7,500 miles) and do a Blackstone oil analysis.
My Blackstone report confirmed that at 7,500 miles, my oil was still protecting my engine without increased wear.
I am satisfied with a 7,500 mile interval and this Mobil 1 oil. Other synthetic oils can get you more miles, but I am sticking with this one for now.
