Making our car lighter would probably cost more than putting a turbo on it, since you need a lot of weight lost just to get some benefit. Then you loose many other things also, like comfort, such as AC and get much louder cabin noise.

Start with an intake, make your own or buy one, they all do the same thing. These engines literally suck HOT air with their stock intake, so that will get you noticable gains. So $80-150

Next go to the exhaust system...I'd advise a magnaflow system as they are not very "ricey". Headers with the exhaust. Magnaflow is around $400-500 I think. Headers are like $200ish

Then you can get a light flywheel, not "faster" but it will accelerate much faster in low gears. About $400 plus labor if you dont want to install it yourself, also need new clutch bolts with that I think, so probably like $20-30 more.

Then your runnin out....you could get an ECU programmer/piggyback to map your engine and get some HP, but thats pretty expensive.

Your best bet is a CAI first, NOT a short ram intake, those STILL suck in hot air.

I/H/E setup might get you an extra 15-20 hp...

Nitrous I dont know too much about...but for $650 you could get a 40-50 HP gain. Much more and you risk engine issues...

Good luck!

cf = carbon fiber but as it has been said you might as well go with a turbo if you go that route.

follow what rdkill said and I would add to that some suspension work. no point in going real fast with the car stuck to a tree.

I wouldn't bother with the above suggestions at all, mainly because the cost-benefit payoff is so low.
Sure your car might sound a little more aggressive and all, but it won't perform anywhere near the levels of a stock XRS.

If you're set on building a 9th gen Corolla up, then I would sell the CE and buy a used XRS instead.

I know it's not the answer you want to hear, but it's the honest truth so take it for what it is.

I agree with the above. You WILL spend more money trying to make your CE fast than you will spend selling it and buying an XRS. Don't get caught nickel-and-dime'ing yourself with go-fast parts for your CE, under the rationale that money is tight and you can't spend much. Because you WILL keep spending money looking for extra speed that really isn't there (or if you get it, you'll have a lot of compromises). The XRS was built from the beginning to be the "go-fast" model (though "fast" in this case is really relative).

For your CE, I/E/H will give you a different sound, and you'll feel like you're going faster. Add sticky low-profile tires and wheels, and maybe some springs, and you'll really stick to corners. You'd be able to do all that for a few grand and have a fairly nice car that will perform at a level higher than most Corollas out there. But if speed is really what you're after, sell the CE and buy an XRS.

Remember modding any car is expensive....if we all went out and bought faster cars we would all be driving sports cars around.

Now I agree that a used XRS could be managable but then its not "unique" in any way, since you didnt put any of your own work into it.

As long as you can handle a stick/manual, get a 2005-2006 Corolla XRS. I swear you will not be dissapointed with it. It goes like it's got a rocket shoved up its... exhaust. And the mods are much greater with the 2ZZ-GE engine. Go take one for a drive!

I guess you need to decide what you want.

do you just want a faster car? or do you want to make your car faster?

so which will it be? the red pill or the blue?
