Canada '05 CE 5SP Brake Chatter

I installed my summer rims about 600km ago (car has 156,000K) and I am experiencing brake chatter that started about a week ago and is getting quite severe. I was told that the chatter may be caused by my not using a torque wrench when mounting the rims.

Does this seem right or is there a better explanation for the chatter?

Do you feel it in the brake pedal? If the wheels are torqued unevenly, it can make the rotor "un- true". You would feel this is the brake pedal.
Get them torqued to 76 foot pounds. At least that's what I think is the spec. Check your owners manual.

How old are the brake rotors? Or how long since they've been cut? It's likely Thickness Variation (TV) on the rotors. Folks most often say "warped rotors", but they're not really warped. It's TV.

Yes, I certainly do feel it in the pedal. The pads were replaced about 50K ago, rotors have never been replaced.

Some am I right to assume this is a "warped rotor/overtorqued rim" problem?

If everything was fine before you changed your wheels, get them torqued properly and see if that solves your problem. Otherwise, a brake job is in order to correct the issue. The rotors can likely be machined if they aren't too bad. Change your pads at the same time.
