Rear brakes (minimum thick. and creaking sounds)

Couple questions about my 2003 Corolla.

1) What is the minimum shoe thickness?
2) The right rear brake creaks/squeaks after I let off the pedal. Haven't taken it apart yet, but what do you figure?

Thanks in advance!

Standard 4.4 mm (0.173 in.)
Min 1.0 mm (0.039 in.)

Might need to adjust star wheel on back of drum. Do you backup at all?

Yep, at least 1-2 times a day.

Last time I checked the shoes they were about 2mm, so I guess it's time to change them out. When I'm in there maybe I'll be able to find what's causing the noise.

Thanks for the info!

The squeak is likely the brake shoes rubbing on the brake backing plate. Check for wear there, and use a small amount of wheel bearing grease (just enough to lubricate that surface, but not enough to contaminate the braking surface of the shoes or drum).
