I picked it up yesterday after work and its a nice car but I'm having a problem with the front windshield.
When I look out the right hand side of the front windshield I get this odd visual effect. It kinda looks like someone poured a clear sticky soft drink like a sprite over that part of my shield so when I look over to the right I get this weird ripple effect in the glass.
At first I just though that it was sticker glue so I washed my car and its still there. So I grabbed some heavy duty glass cleaner that my dad uses on his motorcycle and then sprayed all over the outside of my car and I wiped the outside with no streaks then I used it on the inside and again wiped it down so there were no streaks and I still get the ripple effect.
If you look straight through the windows you dont see anything but if you stand at an angle in certain light you can see a rippling looking effect in the glass.
Have there been any bulletins on possible defective windshields on the 08 LE corolla's because I still have 1.5 years left on my warranty but I'm not sure if the warranty would cover this.
Any help would be great because I just spent 12k on this car and I hate having the feeling that I'm constantly looking out of a dirty fish bowl for the rest of the life on the car.
It's probably just the curve of the windshield. Mine does that also to some extent. It's not real noticeable, but if I'm looking for it, I can see it. Only on the very edge.

Its not on the very edge its just a little to the right of the center of the windshield. I thought that it may have been that but then I switched into the passengers side and there wasn't anything on the left side.
If you get in the right light at the right angle you can see it if you are outsdie the car staring in.
I have the same issues with mine as well. I don't let it get to me, as I'll collect a rock and get a big crack in it sooner or later and then get a replacement. Living in New Mexico, it's one of the things you just know you're gonna have to do....
AT that point, I hope to rid my car of the high speed buzzzzzzzzzzzzing noise too...
If its a factory defect if I were to go to a local autoglass place would they used a factory made windshield or would I get a different one?
They'd most likely use an aftermarket windshield, which isn't generally a good thing. They're often thinner than original equipment (OE) glass and you often have more waviness in the glass than OE glass. We had the windshield replaced on our former 2003 Grand Caravan with SafeLite glass, and you could actually see an effect similar to what you're describing in it. It just seemed to be a cheaper product.
Anything man-made can have a defect in it. I'd ask to sit in other 9th generation Corollas at your local dealer and make them show you that this is "normal". Does the windshield glass have the Toyota printing on the lower corner of it, indicating that it is in fact OE glass?

There is an XYTG stamp on the lower front drivers side.
You are not the only one who dislikes XYG glass, it is Chinese crap. I assume it was replaced due to a rock chip or break in, hopefully not an accident.
It won't hurt to take the car in for your service dept rep to look over. Get the facts straight on whether or not you can get a genuine factory replacement covered under warranty. Beforehand inquire with the parts dept what speciific product or manufacturer is used, if any, as a a "backup" for the genuine Toyota item. Then see if the service dept comes up with the same "story." Be prepared for them to say there is no way to prove that due to your own negligence that you yourself had previously replaced the existing glass! Good Luck!
