torque issue.

2006 Corolla CE AUTO

well... my corolla is quite new in mileage but it IS second hand... so i'm just wondering many things about the car...

I'm just wondering about the torque of it when starting from dead stop on flat surface.

I did get new set of tires(195/60/15). so it's a bit better than the original one which it had it on before...(which had NO TREADS ON OUTER SIDES)

anyway, the point is I just can't seem to squeal the tires from dead stop. So is it normal for 122ft/lb(?) torque car to be like this? Or is it that some problems in transmission that could be slipping power off?

Cause I've seen a video one time; of a stock Corolla review. And I heard the tire "squealing". lol

thx.

oh, and why is the transmission so sluggish on Corolla AUTO?

My 88 Camry did better in switching gears. very quick and snappy. Especially with that ECT button, the car would switch gear like snap!! down/up shift, either one would be very quick.

But Corolla would shift up like if the gears were made out of marshimellows. I want my ECT button on Corolla!!

oh... and it's very hard to pass someone at awkward speed like 50km/h. gear wouldn't shift down to it's optimal RPM, and would just stay on high gear..

Camry was slower though, just not enough power.

Well it's harder to spin the tires if you have an automatic. So is it normal? I guess so. I tend to stay away from automatics because I can't have as much fun with them.

The transmission, well I don't know. I've never driven a 1ZZ-FE let alone a 1ZZ-FE auto. So I can't comment. Is your transmission not kicking down at 50??? That might be a problem...

Well several things. An auto...espicially a corolla with new treaded tires probably wont spin the wheels at all. Plus wet/dry/bumpy surfaces can all affect how much it takes for your tires to break loose.

Try resetting your ECU to try and fix the shifting problem. Just Unhook the battery for a few hours. I think the ECU adapts to your driving patterns...perhaps the person who previously had driven it drove differently?

I also hear that when you reset your ecu the car will idle differently when you start it back up...so you're supposed to let it come to normal idle once you start it the first time. You at leas tknow it worked that way.

1st) it's an automatic, 2nd) it's a four cylinder, 3rd) the reviewer must've used a different version of the Corolla to test, 4th) it's an economy car.
You can try to give the car a tune-up: spark plugs, oil change, check the air filter. Another thing you can do is engine braking. While stepping on the brake, press down a little on the gas until the rpm is at least at 1500rpm. After that, just let go of the brake when your ready. I don't recommend doing it alot though since it can hurt the engine mounts later on in the future. There's no ECT button on the Corollas?

It's likely just the fact that it's an automatic. My 5-speed LE will lay scratch from a stop pretty easily. And with 195/65R15 tires also.
