No spare key

I discovered I have lost my spare keys. Can I have a spare key made anywhere or do I have to go to the dealer? I have a 2004 Corolla.

Stellapr. Is your car equipt with an engine immobilizer? My 2005 Corolla came with a engine immobilizer from the factory so I thought I'd ask.

If it is, you can't just "go get it copied" because the key will have a chip with a code. No code = no start, even if you clicked it to the starter. It's an anti-theft device. In that case, yes you would have to go to the dealer.

If no. Go ahead and copy it...

if your car made from 2003, 2004, you can just go to copy the key at any locksmith, but if from 2005 to 2008, you will have to go to dealer since there is a chip in the key

normal key for 2003, and 2004 will only cost you a few dollar, but 2005-2008 will cost you close to $100 (key + programming)

Home Depot's machine as a sensor that will tell you (or the store employee) if your key has a chip in it. If so, you can have the key cut, but it won't start the car. You can likely buy the right key (uncut) off eBay and have it cut for cheap at a hardware store, then programmed to your car by the Toyota dealer.

I had a key made at Home Depot and it worked fine thank goodness. I held my breath till it started. Home Depot asked me if it had a chip in it and I said no. Chips in keys did not start till 2005. I have a 2004.
Thanks for everyones reply.
