My 04 corolla has 54000 miles, however at 39000 I took it in for service and told them to check this not normal viberation. They said it was normal. A month latter I had an appointment with the district mgr. and he said it was also normal. The engine has this rolling viberation that can be felt in the steering wheel, the gas pedal, the floor, the seats and the doors. I will tell you that it is not the motor mts. nor is it the A/c or the brakes. It is the same viberation when I am stopped at a red light, or when I am doing 70 mph.Has anyone in forum had a similar situation? and if so how was the problem corrected?
As far as I know both the 1ZZ-FE and 2ZZ-GE are shakey engines. I know that my car has a good vibration at idle when the car is not moving sometimes, I feel it through the seat and wheel. However you said yours vibrates @ 70 mph? Weird! I only feel the vibration when the car is stopped at Idle, not moving (;moving when at idle is fine).
Thanks for the motor info, The reason I said 70 mph is because what I feel at idle carrys' over at all speeds just not as pronounced when at idle. It is very annoying. This is my first non American car and I was a bit disappointed since American cars are tight at first and then just self destruct. I did read that the newer corolla will have a smoother engine just not sure what year car that will be.
Is the vibration due to low idle at around 500 to 600rpm? If thats the case then you might have a vacuum leak most likey from the intake manifold gasket. On my 03 corolla the vibration is pretty bad but I know its from the gasket so that will get changed soon.

2ZZ-GE @ 90,560KMs (56,600 miles)
I agree, the 1ZZFE is a pretty reliable and durable engine but it's far from the most refined engine out there. My runs well, but it's not the smoothest thing out there, I can feel engine vibration through the steering wheel and various other parts of the car.

The low idle at 500-700 rpm does indeed contribute to the vibration, however the district service mgr said this is completely normal. All other moving or sealed parts do not show any problem to this annoying vibration. The vibration at higher speeds is not like the idle but I feel it since I drive 80 miles a day x 5. When I first bought the car up till 39000k it ran smooth and at times I didn't know if the engine was on. The new XRS has the Camery 2.4L engine which is smoother, but the other models have the engine that likes to vibrate.

So if you rev your engine a little at a standstill, does the vibration get worse, same, Or gets better? I know when I rev mine it gets a little better (wouldn't say goes away). The engine vibration did cause me to get a little concerned when I bought the car, but once my engine warms up and settles to warm idle (In my case 1000rpm) it doesn't shake alot.
I'm starting to think, that this might be a tire issue. I say this because you mentioned the vibration at higher speeds is not like the idle vibration. Tires may have chucked a weight or something (unbalenced), or have broken belts (<- case with my paseo, shakey at most speeds, very shakey at 30Km/h (around 20Mph)). Just a thought...

when I rev up some I still feel it however it is not like 500-700rpm. Its like a diesel only not noisey, very strange! As for the tires it is not. The vibration is engine type. There must be a trade off in the design and performance to get mpg and sales. It is not perfect but I get 35 mpg on avg,so my trade off is the vibration...
