well there was this girl on this forum about a year ago and stated she got 600 miles on a single tank of gas (9th gen corolla)i thought it was not entirely true. In the past i have acheived 530 miles to a tank. Well i decided to give it a try again to hit 600 due to alot of construction on my daily route 50 miles from home, i did not exceed 60mph most of the time pegged at 50mph... well guys and girls i continue to be amazed at this corolla 2yrs later. i hit 600 miles to a single tank! I am very pleased and want a decal of a "600 mile" club now. I wonder if there is such a thing??
mods: 4gauge ground wire
daytime running lamps disable
48psi in tires
205 sized tires (size wider than stock)
mobil one 0-30 synthetic
These mods i believe made a slight difference in setting my 600 mile personal record, It was all about the speed and the rpm in my opinion, although i bet they definitely helped.
honestly i had a rental prius for a few days last year and the mileage was not as good as my corolla, are there any other cars out there that can ACTUALLY achieve 48mpg??
This is a proud day thanks for listening! oh yea and i want a 600 mile decal for my window! so pls let me know if these can be purchased. thx
this is also a 5-speed 2007 btw
almost forgot the temperature hit 99 degrees farenheit like 3 times the entire week and used my air conditioner for approx 200 mile, hell i may have been able to hit 630+ if i was able to bear the temperatures!

I got 48.5 MPG on a 100 mile trip once with my '07. It was a very light trip, to a golf course and back, 45 miles each way. I filled up prior and filled up after, because I was trying for my very best. 2-lane country roads, speeds of 50-60 MPH. If you can drive that speed, steady, you should very easily be able to achieve upper 40s for MPG. If your MPG includes cold starts (and apparently it does, since it's over an entire tank), that's an impressive figure.
Congratulations! I am truly amazed at you accomplishment. I've got a '06 with an AT and can get maybe 550/tank if I really nurse it and drive on fumes. That translates into like 45 MPG. My tricks are 45 psi tires and a grillblock. Not sure how the ground wire mod would work, but hey, it looks like it works for you!
Very impressive . I had a loaner Corolla back in 2008 and I got 38.5 MPG with mixed driving. If it were all highway, mid-40s wouldn't surprise me. On my last mostly highway trip @ 65 MPH w/ AC on in my (heavy) Camry, I got 33.5 MPG. It's always fun to beat your previous best for fuel economy eh? Unfortunately I do almost all city driving so my typical tank returns an average of 18.5-20 MPG

yea it is pretty sweet too bad i cant bring myself to drive that docile all the time, with all these cameras pretty soon you wont be able to drive over the speed limit at all.... it would really suck if you had a sports car lol ... also if you are sick of your headlights and drl going on and off all the time do the drl rewire it is much better the photoptic eye is way to sensitive in my opinion..
how the heck do you guys get 600 miles to a full tank? that doesn't sound realistic...do you run it until its empty dry and until the car dies to achieve that.
I can only do 410 miles on 87 octane manual gearbox before the warning light comes on.
are you using 87 octane gas as well?

Your driving environment governs how much fuel you'll use more than anything else. Up in Canada, you have colder starts, you probably have more city type traffic, etc. In my driving cycle, there's no way I can average 45-50 MPG. It just can't be done. I average about 25 MPH on my commute...and that's pretty fast for a "city" commute. But if your drive to work consists of little more than starting the car, driving straight to an expressway, cruising on it at 55 MPH for 50 miles at a time, getting off and turning the car off, it's pretty easy to get MUCH higher MPG than someone else.
well a couple of things, first at 30 mph you can drive in 5th gear without lagging the engine, so some of the best mileage i have acheived has been in stop and go heavy chicago traffic, have acheived 44+ mpg in heavy traffic, because of the low rpm and low wind resistance involved, dont shift over 2k rpm and you too will see these results, the tank i hit 600 miles i actually had to drive around the burb for awile before i filled up, wanted to see that 600. the 600 miles arrived about 60 miles into the reserve tank... according to some calculations there could still be 30 miles left in that reserve, that i dunno because i never ran out of gas. now i firmly believe not everyone can hit 600 miles, but with a few tecqniques you can easily see 530 in the summer.
one of the best tips i have is coast alot, when u coast in gear you are using NO gas at all, however if you coast in nuetral u are using fuel, mostly i have just learned to relax while driving otherwise traffic is a nightmare with a 5-speed, ill let all the jet fighter wannabees race ahead of me (while staying in the right lane of course) ALSO dont forget i used my A/C for approx 200 miles also... it killed me to do it but was 99-100 degrees
Tips to 600 miles a tank.
- use good synthetic motor oil, mobil one 0-30
- keep trunk empty
- Dont floor accelerator
- shift at lowest RPMs possible (if powertrain starts shaking your rpms too low, lagging is bad)
- if you dont have summer formulated fuel forget about it lol
- very high temperatures are your friend
- make sure tires are inflated properly
Hybrid?!?!? Honestly there is so much damn hype surrounding all of them it really is sickening, the epa mileage in my opinion for these cars is so damn embellished you will never see those numbers no matter how you drive, i had a rental prius for a week and i think i averaged 35mpg pegged at 65mph on the highway, terrible if u ask me.. Ill wait until they come out with a 100mpg car and be ready to be completely satisfied with 70mpg.
people say that same thing about all gasoline cars but the corolla is a HUGE exception to the rule, you will acheive that epa sticker plus a whole lot more if you work at it, hwy for the corolla should read 45mpg/hwy instead of 41mpg/hwy, be kinda hard to sell those hybrids then wouldn't it?

Over the 2 years I have had my car, I have an average of 34.99 MPG - for 31,000+ miles. I have always felt that 40 would be easily attainable on a road trip. My best tank was 39.something... I'm not real careful of how I drive, so I am very happy with my numbers.
I'm not sure that I would have the patience to go much beyond 40. Still, it's good to hear that you did! Pretty neat little cars, huh?
I do 90% highway going 55 miles and 10% local city driving. I have 5 speed on the car and I change gears at around 2k rpm. Im using 87 octane and Im very conservative on gas especially now summertime in Canada were getting 75degrees, ill just open my windows and enjoy the breeze.
Still im only achieving 410miles until the warning light goes on. I don't like running it dry so I'll do another 10 miles before I fill up again. So im getting on average 420miles/tank and that's driving conservatively 90% hwy and 10% local not much traffic.

You can't count miles per tank because your light might come on at a different time from someone else's light, etc. Also, the light on your car might come on differently this tank vs. last tank.
In order to get an accurate reading, you need to divide the miles you drove (410) by how many gallons you put in. If you filled it with 11 gallons, that'd be 37.3 MPG. If you filled it with 12 gallons, that'd be 34.2 MPG.
I only get 350 miles "per tank", but I always fill up at 1/4 of a tank also, so I only fill 10 gallons at a time. At first, 350 miles per tank doesn't sound like much, but on only 10 gallons, that's 35 MPG. 410 miles per tank sounds like a better number, but if it took 12 gallons to get there, that's actually a worse MPG number.
I hear you...based on a 50 litre full tank and reseting my odometer I am reaching around 410miles when the light turns on. MPG it can't be too accurate unless I run the car dry until it has no fuel left. Even calculating your MPG at a quarter mark doesn't make it too accurate. The best way to be really accurate is filling up your car and running it until it dies. That you will find out how many miles you get on a 50 litre tank.

45psi tire pressure!?!??!??!?! is there any drawbacks to this?
Depending on tires you use, you may exceeded your max sidewall pressure when the tires heat up, you tires will wear excessively in the center, cornering in rain/snow would quite difficult. Also, excessive wear on your suspension will occur, but you will get ~1 mpg bump in mileage with a very harsh drive.
