engine moans on manual '06 Corolla S

i just noticed last night that my car moans when reversing. i know it supposed to make a sound as if it winds but this sound is more of a moan. the sound is more prominent when reversing up the slight incline into my parking space. has anyone else had this problem or maybe be of some assistance?

With my '07 LE manual, I just notice the normal reverse wind-up noise (straight cut gears). No other noises. You aren't lugging the engine down too much are you? I try to keep the clutch slipped a bit such that the engine doesn't really drop below about 1000 RPM when backing up.

Nah the engine is kept above 1000rpms im not sure at what range it makes the noise. i know the winding is normal but at a certain point mostly noticing it when im backing on the slight incline in my parking space. ill have to look at the rpms its makes the noise at. my gf stood outside the car when i tried to duplicate the noise and she said it was coming mostly from the front passenger side in the engine bay. I sprayed belt conditioner on the belts just to see but it still made the noise.
not so much of a grind which it may be, but a moaning sound.

It might be the power steering pump. Check to make sure the system is full of fluid. You can also begin "flushing" the power steering system by sucking as much out of the reservoir you can with a turkey baster and refilling. Do that every few days after driving it and after a while, a good portion of the fluid in the system will be new.
