USA 2006 Corolla Extreme Rattle on start

Hey all, first time poster here and I just have a quick question.

My wife drives a 2006 Corolla with the DOHC 1ZZFE and this morning when she left to go to the store the car made an extremely loud rattling noise for about 5-10 seconds then cleared up. I was inside and could here it making the noise , but wasn't outside to give you a better description. From what I could tell it almost had to have been an oil pressure deal because as soon as it ran for 10 seconds the noise gradually decreased until it was gone and all seemed well. The car is maintained extremely well, oil changes every 3000 miles on the dot.

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like it's likely a timing chain tensioner. Failures in this area are rather uncommon. Fortunately, your car is probably still under warranty; Toyota's powertrain warranty has been 5 years or 60,000 miles for some time now I think. If you have fewer than 60,000 miles, I'd definitely bring it in to the dealership. If not, the timing chain tensioner is actually fairly easy to replace as I understand.

Sounds like a serpentine belt tensioner, they are a fairly common part to fail.
