O.K. I have been asking for over a year and a half WHY does my engine vibrate. Let's find an intelligent answer because TOYOTA does not know and they like to hide behind an engine vibration flaw and call it NORMAL. I have asked on the forum and got all kind of answers which none of them solved the issue. The engine vibrates the moment it is on. It vibrates when you drive. It vibrates when you are at a red light. It virbates with the A/C on. The seats vibrates, the floor vibrates, the gas peddle vibrates, It is a low oscillating VIBRATION. TOYOTA says it is NORMAL. I say they are full of S.... to say it nicely. This will be my last TOYOTA and I will go back to FORD unless TOYOTA addresses the issue and tells those of us who have the MONDAY built COROLLA with an enine vibration flaw design as to WHY. For the first 39K NO PROBLEM. It has only been serviced by TOYOTA. My friends at work say I have a PROBLEM and they could not drive this car with this VIBRATION.The steering wheel vibrates. The only time it does not VIBRATE is when I turn it off. It can also be discribed as early form of alzheimer, this vibration is not NORMAL. The car looks new, garage kept, and has been well maintained with 56K as of now. I want to sell it but I am afraid to let someone turn it on and drive it because even I would not buy it in the current condition. Can someone from TOYOTA please help me and make my day. THANKS!
I'd have mechanics look at it. Could be that something in the engine is is not running properly or the engine is not mounted properly. I noticed my engine in my 06 vibrates a lot when I look at it under the hood but it does not vibrate the car that much. I'm guessing the mounts that absorb shock are worn.

Thanks,I had the dealer just 3weeks ago check them and they said the mounts were good. Now you mention perhaps the engine is not mounted right, that is possible as it could fall under the monday factory building sennario.Get this even the so called factory service mgr. said the vibration is normal for these 4 cyl engines. I said to him that for the fisrt 39k there was no vibration therefore no complaint by me. So the last 17k this vibration is not normal, and yes I do see the engine shake under the hood as you report yours does...
I had a car one time that would vibrate real bad when at a red light, thats in drive with foot on brake. When driving or in park it would not vibrate, turned out to be a bad torque converter, but that was on a 88 chevy.
My 06 vibrates the most when the air is running while parked, it keeps jumping from under 1000 rpms to slightly above it a few times a minute causing irregular vibrations. Not very noticeable in the car but car hear it if outside or have the windows down, I also hear faint squeaking when I have the hood up not loud enough to signal a belt slip but I'll keep an eye on it.
My other guess for your issue is extra drag on the belt, so it could be some component on the belt that is not spinning as it should.
well hrm..... whens the last time you changed ur trans fluid ???? from what i know dirty trans fluid can make ur touqe converter run funny..... had a friend with a camero that had the same problem, took his tranny out cleaned and regreased his torque conv and the problem went away
torque converters can also sqeak if they come loose
weird that ur car goes over 1k rpms when u got the air on mine only does that for a second when i turn it from off to high then hovers at 800-850....
hmm it could be a fan belt.......
can you pin piont exactly where the noise is coming from and which side vibrates more?
Not sure if this is your problem but. There is a TSB for the Corolla and Matrix having an engine mount that is not as good at dampening engine vibration. The TSB is for 05 and 06 cars.

Thanks, I did see that as I always surf the web. If you google Toyota Corolla Engine Vibration you will see pages of Corolla owners from the early '90s with all sorts of Vibration issues. As I stated in my original post the car is well maintained but what bothers me is that the first 39k no Vibration. But I did inform the dealer on a scheduled appointment and they found and replaced a bad motor mount shortly after 39k. They said the problem is solved. But after I got the car and put it on the road bingo there was the VIBRATION. Weeks turn to months going back and forth and I finally get an appointment with the District Service Mgr. and he blows me off saying no problem found and this vibration is NORMAL for this 1.8L engine. Well he is full of S..T and the reason I post this complaint is in the hopes of finding someone who can solve this. I know that I am not the only one with a Vibrating car and would like to find someone else with the same problem and what they went through to correct it. I was just back to the dealer 3 weeks ago and they said the mounts were O.K. What next?
One way to check if your motor mounts are good is to have the car lifted off the ground. Have someone in the car put the car in drive with his foot on the brakes. Rev the engine slightly with your foot on the brakes. You will see the engine flex on its mount. Put the car in reverse and do the same thing except the engine will flex the opposite way. If you see an excessive ammount of flex then one or more of the mounts is bad.
Another reason for engine vibration is a vacuum leak somewhere. On some models they had a tsb out about the intake manifold gasket leak which can cause rpms to drop lower than normal.
Make sure your mass air flow sensor is in good working condition.
Check that your air filter is clean.
Scan the car for any codes.
Clean the throttle body because it does contain carbon build up.
Theres probably a million other reasons, I just wanted to name some.

I'm in the same boat. I've got a 05 Matrix and I think the Vibration at idle is a little too much between 600-700. I haven't tried changing engine mounts yet. I've been told that the vibration comes mostly from the torque mounts and not the mount in the TSB. Have you heard the same?

How many miles? Well I have not been told anything about the vibration only that it is NORMAL for the 1.8L engine. Now you having an 05, it may fall under the TSB report. Mine also vibrates at 600-700 idle, but it continues all through the drive process, it is a constant osolating type Vibration which can be felt in the steering wheel, the gas peddle, the floor, the seats, it is an annoying type vibrational hummmmmm,Does yours fit my description? also I have posted on this forum going on months so if you check in previous post you will see my title. Keep me posted! THANKS.
Let me get this straight - no vibration for about 39K miles, dealership found a "bad" motor mount and replaced it - now vibrations are worse?
Sounds like they put the mount in incorrectly. I know when I changed my motor mounts (another car), the car had a much worse vibration than before.
The 1ZZ-FE engine is well known to be a "noisy" engine, but not much as vibration. Possible that they didn't lubricate the mount when they installed it or even installed the wrong mount. There is even a chance that there is another broken or worn mount - that would be hard to check for, especially if the other mounts are in good shape.
Another possibility - could be a defective belt tensioner causing the vibration. Some are so worn that they can cause the whole car to lightly vibrate. Pretty common to have the belt squeak on people, some cases, the belt won't really squeak, but actually jump up a down - feeling like excessive vibration at certain engine RPMs.
