Canada Swapping motors for a customer.

I work at a Toyota dealership, I was offered $500 by my dad (he owns the dealership) to take out the motor on the 2002 Corolla (not sport model) and put in the motor from a 2004 Corolla (also not sport model). We are using the tranny in the 2002.

I have done a 7mgte swap into my MK2 Supra so I am not a complete noob to motor swaps but I have not pulled out a motor / tranny / axles from a FWD car before.

Could you guys offer any hints? Differances between the motors? Apparently the intake / exhaust manifolds need to be changed but that is all? Best way to pull out the motor and install the new one?

I have one weeks time, thank you! Oh and the 2002 Corolla is owned by one of my dads friend and he is on a low budget which is why I was selected for the job.

i say take the job

i dropped in a 05 into my 00 without any trouble, and it was my first engine swap too (well, more like a replacement)

just reuse the mounts from the 02 everything else will bolt right up. manifolds need to be swapped too.

the knock sensor and coolant temp sensor need to be swapped (the 02 sensors bolt right in), otherwise the connector on the harness wouldn't fit.

other small parts like brackets can be swapped too (just to make it a clean job), just set the 2 engines side by side and start swapping lol.

from the when i got the engine from the salvage yard to when i fired the engine up, it only took 2 days. considering that you work in a toyota dealer with all the tools you'll ever need, a week is WAY more than enough for you.

any questions just let me know. i'll be glad to help.

How did you deal with the AC lines? Did you swap the ECU too?

they are basically both the same engine. 1ZZFE. only difference is the intake and exhaust manifolds.

same engine same block, i just bolted my old AC compressor and PS pump on the new engine.

on the outside everything is the same, but i suppose to have 400 more revs till redline and 5 more hp. oh well, not like i'm going to race it, so no, there are no difference lol.

So I got the motor in, everything is the same except mounts and mani's.

But guess what. The motor I put in is seized... guess time to start from ground zero.

(you can only turn the crank half a turn even with a cheater bar, I think a valve is stuck or hitting a piston)
