Corolla 2003 LE lugnuts appears loose

Hi Guys,
Have you observe, lug nuts for corolla 2003 LE alloy rims appears loose when you touch the nuts after tightening. I just check by hand and appeared they are loose and have play, but they arn't loose. Is this a factory setting, i check the both front and back and some lug nuts appeared little loose, but once i check with wheel tightening rod, they are fully tight.

Are they torqued to the proper spec?

If they are loose and have play, likely the studs or the holes in the wheel for the studs to go through are oblong or stripped. I would carefully inspect each wheel and stud for damage. What did you torque them too? What do you mean by "I just check by hand and appeared they are loose and have play, but they arn't loose"

Hi,
They are fully tight by torque rod, not sure of exact torque, but that the maximum i can tight. But once you touch the lug nut on wheel, it looks loose, but offcourse it can't be opened by hand.
Can you check your LE with original corolla lug nuts on alloy rims, is there an apparent play. It looks wierd, i just want to double check this. Car is in excellent condition, never abused.

Invest in a torque wrench and torque them down properly.

Are any of the threads on the wheel studs stripped by any chance?

Yours studs might be loose. If so they are gonna need to be taken off and repressed in. Have it checked out at a independent shop cause they will fix it for a lot cheaper than the dealer.

Do these lugnuts have the caps over them? I've worked on numerous cars that have loose 'lug covers/caps' but the actual lugnut was still torqued properly...

yes, they have caps.
you are right, cap part appears loose, but actually it is tight. I think it happens due to over tightening the nut.

Yeah, no worries as long as the actual lugnut is torqued down.
