I want to disable the Daytime Running Light however, keep the Automatic Light Control. Anyone know how I can do this? Or can someone provide me a diagram of the 05-08 headlight wiring? Please let me know, thanks.
How are the auto lights supposed to work on these cars? They never worked (that I know of) on my '07 LE. What is the functionality? Even with the light stalk off, the lights come on automatically when dark enough outside?
Yeah, that's how they work for me on my 07. The DRL are on at 90% (I think) of full. When dark enough, they go to full on, my instrument lights come on as well as my tail lights. They don't bug me all that much - it's kind of nice never having to switch my lights on.

Yes, there is a ambient light sensor in the corner of the driver side dash. The headlights come on automatically when the sensor doesn't detect much light.

Supposedly, cutting the #12 wire to disable the DRLs (like I did on my '07 LE) does not affect the auto light feature. But mine never worked that way anyway, so I don't know.
The DIY is on 9th gen Corolla.com. Lots of discussion/pictures on the topic there.

No, cutting #12 will disable both DRL and Auto light. Cutting #11 will do the same. Your DRL should work as it applies to all 9th gen models, although it needs a little time to activate.
The discussions/pictures at 9th gen forums are in theory only, no one tried it. And the samples DIY does not have enough information on the pins, so it's a risk with the car's electrical system.
Huh. I could park in the garage and the lights would never activate on their own (before the mod). So I'm not quite sure how it was supposed to work. I don't mind flicking the switch anyway. I've had a number of cars with automatic headlights, and always wanted a way to turn that feature off. I prefer to control the car's systems myself.
Good luck with finding what you need. Looks like it may take some trial and error.
They will not come on with the parking brake activated might I add.
Thanks for suggesting, its annoying to park and wait at night with lights.
My only concern is will it stop you from driving with the parking brake on? I would hate to mess it up by missing a warning sound and trying to drive it by habit without thinking.
Opinions will vary on that subject...I guess its up to you, one click out of 7 or so shouldnt cause rub...but it might...so its between that or cutting a wire. The brake method works more temporarily of course...say you are driving to pick someone up at night, know your gonna be sitting for a while. Cutting the wire can be reversed, but not as easily as popping the brake down :-D.
Only annoying thing is the stupid "Hey your brake is on' light...it can be pretty bright when its dark out.

Another option is cutting the wire, but putting in a small in-line switch. That way, it's pretty easily reversible (with the flip of the switch). If you don't like how it works with the line "cut" (or your switch off), you can turn the switch on (to "connect" the wire back) and you're just out some time and 3 dollars for a small switch.
