Leaking Shocks

Took my car in for a free inspection, which not sure if I'd do again. I have an 06 Corolla with 23, 000 miles on it, granted I've put on 10 in the last 6 months. I waited in the waiting room, and was surprised to hear loud banging. when the inspection was done, I was told my right shock was leaking.

How typical of a problem is this?

I'll get it fixed, but a little surprised that I already have leaking parts after only 23K miles.

It is rare that you find a leaking shock on a car with such low mileage. But its not surprising. On my 06 Infiniti M45 I also found a leaking shock on the drivers side rear wheel. The car only had 26k miles. The dealer replaced it under warranty and if your car is under warranty you should have no issue getting it replaced.

Are you still under warranty?

If so, get the dealership to foot the bill for a new one.

I would get to dealership to look at it themselves and give you the final conclusion whether it is leaking or not. This way they could atleast order the part for you and they may even have it in stock there. My dealership has been very good with this.

I was only charged labor which was minimal, 40 dollars
