Swapping Stock Radio Units

Hey guys, I just bought my first Toyota yesterday- an '03 Corolla S and am loving it! I've been trying to figure out if I can remove my stock radio unit and replace it with one of the 6 disc units which seem to be exclusive to the XRS. Does anyone know if the connectors are the same for each of these units?

Yeah the connectors should be the same. Which model do you currently have, the A51813? And you want to upgrade to the A51814? There are 3 connections in all, one for the antenna and 2 molex type connectors.

I actually don't like the 6-CD changer at all, the CDs constantly get jammed and you get the notorious ERROR3 message. I just recently downgraded to one from an '03 that has CD and cassette (A56821). That way i can hook up my ipod directly to my radio through the cassette deck, and i must say i'm one happy camper now.

The 6-disc changing units were found in most LE models also. Mine has one and it works great. You can find them for sale used pretty often, as folks often will change them out for aftermarket head units.

As far as I am aware, Pioneer, Panasonic, and Delco made these units. The Delcos had the jamming problem, as did either the Panasonic or Pioneer, but I don't remember which, but my gut would say Panasonic.

Do some research and make sure the one you get is one that doesn't have the jamming problems. I'd offer mine, as it will never be going back into the car, but it's a Delco and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I was unaware that there was a malfunction plaguing these units... looks like I might just go with a radio unit with the tape deck. Is there a way to tell for sure if one of the 6-disc units is made by Panasonic, Pioneer, or Delco? I'm assuming it would just be stamped on the back?

why dont you just try putting a Scion headunit it, they go right in and if your lucky and find a Pioneer upgrade Headunit (has RCAs for subwoofers).... I have one from before i had my system, its a basic one, lights up orange and def gives off better sound quality and plus there is an ipod hook up on the back of it, i have one if anyone is interested
