help maintain a corrola (tag along)

I have a 2005 Corrola S, with standard trasmission. I am the orignal owner.

I have been changing the oil, filters, etc. at regular intervals. I just recently changed the serpentine belt.

I am now at 60,000 miles.

What other maintenance should I do at this mileage?

JM

Toyota has the maintenence intervals online, and you can find them in your owners guide. They're pretty conservative and I'd recommend sticking to them.

Some suggestions...

All the month and milage figures are from Toyota Recommended Maintenance section in the Owner's Manual Supplement.

Transmission Fluid Change: 48 months or 40,000miles (64,000km), 75W-90 GL-4.
Cabin Air Filter: 12 months or 10,000miles (16,000km).
Tire Rotation: 12 months or 10,000miles (16,000km).

Near Future:

Coolant Change: First change at 96 months or 80,000miles (128,000km), and then every 48 months or 40,000miles (64,000km), Toyota Super Long Life Coolant (Pink).

Spark plugs? Should be about time to replace them...

the maintenance guide calls for plugs every 120,000 miles. With Iridium plugs, they're good for another 60,000 miles.

Someone who wants to sell you spark plugs probably told you 80,000 KM. Check Toyota's recommended service interval for the plugs on these cars.

I hope not! It was my father. All his vehicles have SBCs in them. I'm guessing OHV V8s will eat plugs a bit faster (especially when abused the way his are).

Copper plugs typically last between 30-50k miles. Modern OHV V-8 engines (like GM's LSx engines) with dual-plat plugs have similar change intervals as our Corollas (100k+ miles).

His is a '94 sierra, so I'm guessing it's not a very high tech modern OHV. Either that or he uses cheap plugs. In fact I seem to remember the V8 used from '94 - a while ago being based on the LS1, so he probably used cheap plugs.

A '94 would have the LTx family engine, probably with copper plugs. The LSx engine family came out in 1997, to replace the LTx family, and is a completely new and different design:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_LS_engine

The LTx engine family is very closely related to the old SBC template. My '97 Dakota is similar; it has the 5.2L 318 Magnum V-8 engine, with copper plugs. The service interval is 30k miles I think. My '07 Chrysler Town & Country has a 3.8L OHV V-6 engine, but uses dual platinum plugs, and the service interval on those is 75-100k miles.
